Top tip for the Woolacombe course - if you are good at running downhill then start right at the front, even if you don't intend to finish near the front. The course starts with a glorious long and extremely runnable downhill stretch to the beach but it's very narrow so if you're in the middle of the pack there is just nowhere to stretch out. There's loads of space once you're on the beach for the speed merchants to do their thing.

Don't let guilt over a natural reaction tarnish the joy of the activity. You could have a go at Great Yarmouth park run. It’s mostly flat but pretty much all on sand so is allegedly one of the toughest. Personally I’m sticking to Norwich and I’d love to see you at that one.

You guys need to come and try one of my local ones - Gt. Yarmouth North Beach. According to Athletics Weekly it's now the No 1 toughest in the UK 🤪

I’ve also heard it’s usurped Woolacombe. Both are on my ParkRun tourism hit list

You need to try Hafan Pwllheli parkrun! All beach but the sand swaps to gravel to rocks to hard sand... and the slower you are, the more the tide comes in.... the higher up the beach you go into the softer sand... which slows you down and the cycle repeats!!!

I did that last Saturday! It was low tide. A mixture of energy sapping soft sand, wet sand, shingle, ankle-twisting pebbles and hard packed sand. You never knew what your next step would do.

This looks like such a fun course! Medina Parkrun is going on tour for 13th-30th April and visiting Tennyson Down if you want another challenge! 😂😱

Whinlatter forest Parkrun is a challenging rewarding one, woul definitely make for a good vid, especially if the lamas are around. Westpark Munich is my next epic tourism adventure. But will never beat Crissy fields that is no more 😢

Hafan Pwllheli is a deceptive one. All beach. Running to a dot in the distance and then back the way you came. The surface changes from step to step, making it really hard going. It's a mixture of soft dry sand, damp loose sand, damp hard packed sand, very wet sand, shingle and large pebbles which want to twist your ankles. I did it last Saturday. It sapped my energy so much I had to walk for 50m about 300m from the end.

That’s sounds interesting! I take it it’s not really doable barefoot then? Like the thought of doing it barefoot but might be too much!
@nowster

@@languageoffootball I did it in barefoot shoes. The occasional bits of shingle would make it a bit uncomfortable to do totally barefoot.

@@nowster probably the sensible choice. I ran barefoot in Lytham St. Anne’s recently which was wonderful until I sliced the bottom of my foot presumably on a shell around 5 miles in, and 4 miles from my base! Luckily the sand eventually helped to seal it.

@@mountaingoat3012 I feel out of place and there was a lot of competitive talk which put me off so I'm slow but this is probably more of a me thing rather than the parkrun itself

@@LaurensLibrary Give it a go again and go with the mindset of achieving what you want to achieve. Initially I set myself a target of simply getting round, then getting round non-stop and then trying to break 30 mins. Regardless of your pace, don’t be intimidated by faster runners as I’m at the level where I’m way beyond where I thought my running could be and there’s always plenty of faster runners in front of me. In fact, overtime, they might become targets to overtake and boast your finishing position or times. 😎
