The twists and turns of taking fundamental research to commercial reality
The lecture will begin by giving a historical perspective of the development of organic transistors, how they differentiate from competitive technologies, and the current state of the art performance. This will be followed by a discussion of FlexEnable’s journey with the organic transistor in terms of building commercial interest from laboratory samples and then establishing real manufacturing capacity. Finally, there will be showcase of the next generation of FlexEnable technology.
Mike Banach is the Technical Director at FlexEnable. He joined FlexEnable in 2003 after completing his PhD at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University. He immediately played an instrumental role in developing and industrialising the proprietary organic transistor technology for e-paper display applications. He became technical director of the business over a decade ago and has since lead the team behind further breakthrough developments including making sensor arrays, plastic liquid crystal displays, and ultrathin liquid crystal optics for headset applications. Mike also holds a BA in Materials Science from the University of Cincinnati and during his degree he worked as a researcher in the Air Force Research Laboratories at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in USA.
