After converting, I took the micro camper that was converted from a little U-Haul cargo car trailer to Maker Camp in the Catskills of New York. What an amazing trip! This is a highlight video of the drive and experience I had at Blackthorn Resort who hosted the event. I met @simonegiertz, @laurakampf and so many other inspiring makers.

For me I’d add a small lift, swap the tires out to make compatibility with the same as the tow vehicle, off-road suspension. Part of the benefit of a tiny camper is the ability to take it where a full sized camper couldn’t or shouldn’t go. Maybe not fully off road but at least out of the way.

As someone who loves winter camping I would add a small diesel heater and maybe an outlet socket so if you go to a campsite with power you won't need to run an extension cord through a door or window. Save the batteries for when you dont have power

The only thing I’d change , and it’s just me and my ocd. I’d paint the trailer white to match the rover tow rig . And maybe add a window to one of the back doors . Look forward to the suspension mods . I’m a mechanic so dig stuff like that .

That is a pretty slick camper, even watched the building of video. Then there is the jackalope. Had a news crew here in Detroit convinced the antlered bunny exist, even went up north to the UP years ago to film them. Hired a guide crew and everything. They did film one, but it didn’t have any antlers. “That’s a female” the guides said. The news crew were taken for a ride pretty much. Then again, they got to go to the UP of Michigan on the company dime, so who’s got the last laugh now?

Nice little camper. What would I add? Solar, and an outdoor kitchen.
@greggv8
@greggv8 Жыл бұрын
I'd put a fold down solar panel on both sides, with the ability to tilt up above roof level. That way it gets a dual awning for sun shading and both panels can be tilted toward the sun whether the front of the trailer is facing east or west.
@turdferguson5300
@turdferguson5300 Жыл бұрын
The camper doesn't need much. The only things I would add is an awning for shade and rain. Maybe a peephole in the back door for parking lot safety. For the awning possibly have it cover the roof to keep it shaded. For example if the awning were going to extend over the left side tie it to the right side of the roof letting it cover the camper before extending off the left side. A silver tarp from Harbor Freight should reflect the sun and do the job.
@notwocdivad

What about either solar panels on the roof or a wind turbine charger, with the turbine you make your own wind while you travel!. Also what about a fold out awning for weather protection, cooking and more room to relax on warm evenings? Whatever you decide remember we want to see you do it!!! Good Luck and Cheers from the UK.

Great Build Jordan. Do You Have A SWAY-BAR to put on your Hitch? They are really a mainstay pulling any RV Trailer Or Pulling Any Trailer. Great on the Electric Blanket. I Know You Made your own Lithium Batteries. Have you plans to put a few Solar Panels on the Roof of your Trailer? Mix it up so when driving the Motor charges your Lithium Batteries & when Parked the Solar Panels charge up your Lithium Batteries.You could also possible to have a 3-Way system, if your connected to shore power that would charge up your Lithium Batteries. Wally Worlds sells the 5 gallon or is it 6 gallon Jugs of Water & from Amazon they sell the Battery operated pumps you stick down in the water jug & will bring up water for ya or you can hand pump. You can also refill the Jugs at Wally Worlds. Keep it in your Vehicle. Ya got to keep Hydrated. always, Tommy🤠
@JordanWorkshop
@JordanWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Thanks Tommy! I'm not familiar with the hitch sway-bars. I'll definitely read up on them though. As or charging, I tend to carry things on my roof rack so solar might not work. I have added a charger that works with shore power and I'm thinking about just adding a trickle charger that pulls from the light connector since it's pulled with different vehicles. Water jugs are a great idea! I buy those for the house and didn't think of taking one with me.

@@JordanWorkshop Time for a hot wire foam cutter project. Make a template of the corrugated shape of the interior metal panels. Put the hot wire in a vertical "C" frame. With the right material for the template it should be able to run against the wire, or you could run the wire through a metal tube at the bottom so the tube serves as a guide pin. The template would need adjusted to account for the pin diameter. What foam to use and how to fasten it to the template? No idea. I'd go for about 1/4" thickness over the ridges so you don't lose much interior width. But before you cut a bunch of foam to glue to the inside, drill some holes in that corrugated lining to fill the space between it and the exterior with low expanding foam. Alternative insulation method. Wide bubble wrap, rolled into long rolls, secured with packing tape. Fit those into the inner corrugation valleys then get some thin foam sheet to glue over it all, then reinstall the paneling. Combined with the low expanding foam between the corrugated metal and the exterior that ought to serve for stopping air convection.

Nice camper. My recommendation (I've rehabbed a vintage trailer myself) is to replace the screws with pop rivets (or if you are fancy, Olympic rivets). It's annoying--trailers flex when they move so screws eventually work their way out. On the upside, pop rivets are not expensive and replacing the screws is a job you can spread out over time.
@jjackson8667
@jjackson8667 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't appear that you put insulation between the trailer wall and wood interior wall. Just curious why not? Do you have any trouble with condensation/dampness inside? I'm impressed with your build but from my own experiences with small living spaces, I think that after a few nights of using your rig, you'll probably want to add more ventilation (maybe a repurposed pc fan mounted where your lower air intake is located). This new sub is looking forward to seeing how you design and construct this neat build. Be safe.

Sorry to hear you're having legal troubles with the trailer. I've been looking for something to make a mini toy-hauler, and one of those U-Hauls could really fit the bill. When you installed the inside panels, you should had filled those space between the outside panel and inside panel with foam insulation to better insulated the trailer. For the trailer bounce on the railroad track or potholes, being an older trailer, check the spring hanger if they are frozen that they are not able to swivel. Its like having a solid axle if those are frozen. The spring cannot expand. Maybe that repair can fix the bounce.

Ohio does not even have titles for landscape or cargo trailers if it's under 4,000lbs. Only camper trailers under 4k lbs. require a title. It's not hard to get a cargo trailer titled as a camper. You just have to claim it was home built, and provide a weight slip, and a bill of sale for the original donor trailer and major parts or components you installed. In Ohio you take it to a State inspection location, they check your vehicle complies with State highway laws, weight slip, and working trailer lights, and you are given paperwork to get a title at the BMV. Someone may have even cut a serial number tag off an old trailer and reattached it to this UHaul trailer, and were using the title from the old trailer when they sold it to you.
