In the opening, it's implied the pony's parents are ex-pirates. (Look at their cutie marks and how they're dressed) So they assumed she would be a pirate not just because of the cutie mark but her heritage as well.

I can confirm people that Josh really did Bliss a huge hug when they first met, and ya'll can blame me for that hahahaha. It was at Nightmare Nights 2015, I went with Bliss to that convention and Josh was there at the hotel. I decided to say hi to him first since Bliss was too shy (this was their first time meeting after all). After introducing myself to Josh, I told him Bliss was here and pointed her out. He immediately smiled like the Cheshire Cat and got up immediately. Bliss saw him coming and turned around, trying to 'hide' lol. Josh then grabs her and gives her a huge hug and the next thing I heard was, "PRISTINE!" I countered though, "What? You said you wanted to meet him!" lol. Countess Rose, Firescales, and Comic Sans can back me up on this since they were there too lol.

I LOVE this episode! It was so self-aware on what chances and options it can take on, and it did not hold back. It could've been a dumb down plot where the CMC just says they can't help Gabby and the episode would end. But it didn't. It expanded outside of what could've been a thin plot to downright giving dedication in helping someone outside of their reaches, and working around compromises. Also like what Firebrand and Bliss said, it was a very sweet episode on top of being very cleverly written. Just proves that communication is key. Something the show is very weak at. Also I love how both Bliss and Firebrand played off each other. That makes me jealous of Blissy! I guess that makes us even as she said she was jealous of me. :p

Gabby is my spirit animal. Along with Pinkie. Gah I can't decide which is more spirit animal-y. Also when Firebrand's brain shorts out...CLEAR!! *ZAP*

I think Gabby saw friendship spreading and then immediately saw Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie's cutie marks glow as they completed their friendship mission. This is both a fun episode and a fun review. EDIT: Petunia's cutie mark? I think her parents were swashbuckling pirates/sea faring thieves/etc before they settled down. Hence, the already prepared pirate clothes, and the relief at having their child NOT be in constant danger and a thief.

Bliss, have you ever tried studying sign language? I don't know what kind of disability you have, but some people who have difficulty processing spoken language have an easier time with sign language because it's visual rather than verbal.

I know how Lightning Bliss feels. I have a learning disability and everything regarding my school was a struggle. I barely managed to finish High School with a 2.0 Average. But, I decided to take 4 years off and focus on myself and needs before going to college and now am almost finished with a 3.9 GPA. I have to work twice as hard because it take me longer to get it right , but nothing is impossible! I'm actually taking a language class this summer. It's very intensive and I'm really nervous, but I feel it's the push I need to learn something important to me!

But to the episode, this episode was just so sweet. The CMC as a whole are becoming more and more interesting as the season goes on. Nice review guys!

The filly with the bones for a cutie mark, her father has crossed fencing foils for a cutie mark and her mother has a sparkling pearl, So I can see where those two themes combined could lead to the idea of pirate. A pearl in the shell being a reference to the sea and treasure, and the dueling swords...

That was an actual blood glucose meter I'm type 1 by the way so i wanted to appreciate that little detail.
