The crank being true is the least of your worries, ALWAYS check the side clearance, just had a new Hot rods crank that was .006 right out of the box which would’ve self destructed in a couple hours or less, had several that were .004 as well which is why so many people have problems with new wiseco and hot rods cranks a few hours after rebuilding, extremely wise to have someone pull and reset the rod if at all possible. Killer build though! Can’t wait to see it finished

@@MichaelSabo well worth going the extra mile for longevity, some run fine right out of the box but it’s definitely been a problem with them being too far out of tolerance, machinist I use gets them within .001. If a crank locks up and it’s blue on one side the side clearance was 100% the problem, good luck!

On the case step, most small bore/ big bores that are bolt on’s don’t need blended, as a builder you should rotate the motor through full travel and check for interface. Blending areas that are “dead” areas can hurt power, change crank case volume, in some rare cases it can help

I know you did a good job cleaning up all the seams and rough edges and opened it up a bit and whatnot but man it still looks pretty rough on camera you need to get you a good kit of Dremel bits that are different shape and different grits in stone and really be able to work through the different grits and really polish them all up a lot better and it will drastically help everything flow a lot better over the smoother surface and in turn end up with a lot better performing machine or even finish up with some different grit and different shapes of fiber bits as well to really be able to polish and smooth everything baby butt smooth and it really does help everything flow so much better to the point where I'd say you will feel the difference in performance that rough stuff really hurts the flow and overall performance.

Hey Mike, 1 thing I learned from some master engine porters is the air flowing through a 2 stroke motor is subsonic, and subsonic air flows easier over rounded edges. Try rounding off the center transfer port separator bridge a little, instead of knife edging it. If you like doing porting, you gotta invest in a right angle dentist drill/grinder. Then you can get into those transfers, where the real power is made. Nice job on the port matching, even the skirt trim.
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback man! You know what's crazy? Dave Moore told me that exact thing about sharp edges. The reason I brought it to a point is because I've observed that in many ported cylinders. I have a feeling for this platform you're right though, especially because of how high revving 125's are. Maybe I will try both ways and see if its noticeable.
@patp2462
@patp2462 2 жыл бұрын
If you round the edges it will make a turbulence and slow the flow if you knife cut the edges it will just split the air here is example if you look down at the pillars on the bridge in a river they are around it to slow the flow and you can see the turbulence If they knife cut the pillars water would flow too fast just my two cents
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 2 жыл бұрын
@@patp2462 I think youre both correct depending on the format. I think the rounding of the edges only applies at very high velocity; all theory; I don't actually know.
@F5Tornado44
@F5Tornado44 2 жыл бұрын
@@patp2462 So why didn't they knife edge the leading edge of prop driven planes? I understand that the shape of a wing creates lift, and the leading edge has been changed to more of a knife edge for modern supersonic aircraft. All subsonic aircraft still use a well rounded leading edge. Like the modern day airliners.

@@gavinbarham542 yeah I know all about vapor blasting and media (soda) blastings, as well as cerakote, powdercoat. Just was curious what kind of tumbler and media he was using. To get a cylinder jug and head polished to a mirror looking finish without scratches, takes a lot of labor (I've done it to a full 2003 honda cr250r - polished most of every part on the bike to a chrome mirror finish, engine cases, carb, brake reservoir master cylinders, and so on. It wasn't fun to say the least, not to mention the countless hours it took).

People that make fun of homemade tools obviously have not been in the mechanical field very long. There's alot of times where a homemade tool is the only way to go. As far as your crank stand as long as it was cut and built the same height a parallel to each other I see no issue using it. I've been a machinist for 12 years now and I don't see any issue with how you are using the dial indicator.
