Have you considered doing a follow-up on the new back plates cooling performance? It seems like it significantly reduces airflow over the SSD and potentially other important components.

I've had this on for about 40 hours but removed it, because the SSD temps were above 95 °C and the ssd reported in desktop mode to fail soon, because the airflow is really bad above the SSD. So keep this in mind please.

@@exodous02except for the fact that I own a Rog ally, doesn't get melting hot😂 3x better performance without the xG Mobile attached to my Ally Plus literally people only go to library's if you a bum with no PC or DVDs Airports meh even first class. I rather take a private flight off my own landing stripvi built that only coated $1500 of property to buy I got anti social tendencies And tend to buy my neighbors houses when they move out and just demolish it

I would be worried about temps elsewhere because it's pulling air straight into the fan rather than past the motherboard.

Yeah. That IC controller gets HOT, and it really relies on the air coming from the stock in take to keep it cool. Cutting it out of the airflow seems like a bad idea.

Just got mine and while playing chill games it runs in 50 degrees, the deck don’t get even warm, a friend played start field and again, it gets warm at best so I don’t think that would be a problem

Having a vent right next to the fan will make it so that no airflow passes through the SSD, charging and other circuits. Valve put the vent lower in the case for a reason.

I mean, unless you're playing directly under a bright light with no surfaces near you, you'll see the light shining on your hands, couch, desk, etc. Also, how many products exist that literally only serve to make things look cool? Do you never just admire your electronics for a sec and think, "Damn, that's nice?" I know I do.

I see little difference to those ambilight televisions which are in themselves effective (although it can be argued the light bounces off the back of the TV onto the nearby walls).

Do not do this mod. There is a reason the airflow is designed to go through that vent on the bottom left not go directly into the fan. Many components including the SSD and the charge IC get cooled by the airflow going over them. There is nothing cool about this mod having it's own battery. Now you have to charge two batteries. Not fun.

I always asked myself that, why the air intake rejiya wasn't closer to the fan, so that's why? But wouldn't it be better to have both? Or just the fan sucks enough air so it doesn't matter?

@ESGamingCentral Valve designed the backshell with a purpose. All those vents are positioned the way they are because it is the most efficient way of cooling everything. Valve must have done tons of testing and designs to find the best solution, as opposed to JSAUX who drilled holes on top of the fans, saw the temps went down and called it a day.

I’ve tested the temps of the VRM and SSD/ic chip area and you your looking at a 12-15c increase in temps. Still within safe margins but it’s always whose to keep it cooler.

Random tip if you get this backplate, the dbrand killswitch front cover fits reasonably well without the case because of the white grips on tjis

@@MA-xd9zl Everything I have bought from dbrand has been faulty. They also advertised the wrong style of cover, so when I bought from them I got something entirely different from what was advertised. I even proved it to them and they refused to replace it. I ended up paying for another, going through customer service to make sure I got the right one, and they sent a different incorrect product and refused to do anything about it again. Point being, they're just overall a scummy company, especially considering you can get the same thing for much cheaper form other people.

My understanding the new vent of the fan hurts negative pressure to move hot air better from the bottom vent.

Hey Taki be careful, remember GN said that if you lower APU temps you may be starving other components, especially the battery IC, best wishes, stay cool and long life to your steam deck (and you of course).

The holes on the back may kill the deck long term, The power management chips already get hot and taking air away from it can fry the internal power chips

I can confirm that this mod turned my deck into the OLED version. RGB was, unfortunately, not bright enough to increase fps though.

Yeah don’t by a case that has additional vents over the fan. The stock vents are in a weird position so they draw air across critical components before getting to the fan.

The thing is, why didn't Valve do this themselves? Valve has tons of people working on the design and maybe the current one we have was the best solution they have so that all the components gets their heat directed away from them. JSAUX put in holes directly on top of the fan and saw that it had lower temps and called it a day.

I literally did this exact mod yesterday imo the left grip is fine but I find it more comfortable to remove the right grip because I play mostly fighting games and it was hindering my quick finger movements but the rgb Is a very nice touch

I went into the BIOS and lowered the APU GPU voltage to - 0.40 and I even tried -0.5 and it worked just great... There's some that won't go below 0.20 so be careful and know what you're doing before you mess around in there, but you can also increase the GPU Ram to 4GB instead of the 1GB it comes set to stock, you loose 3GB System Ram, but ya got 16GB in a Linux System so you should be good... Also you can turn "Swappyness" down to limit the use of the swap file and stay in Physical Ram as much as possible...

Don't be fooled, it's more of a platformer than anything, and the combat is pretty much just rock paper scissors with guns. Play Doom 2016 first and if you're into it enough, Eternal MIGHT be worth playing.

Stop buying these mods that make air go straight into the fan. The air does not go straight into the fan in the stock shell for a reason. If it was better this way they would just make he hole above the fan, not where it is. They use the fan to push air through the VRMs, the SSD, the Wifi chip, the charge controller, RAM and other chips before finally arriving in the fan. These mods absolutely kill your motherboard components in a few months. Don't buy these and stop making videos about these type of mods.

This is a bad case, bypassing the air intake and filter will cause many issues, charging circuits, ssd, and other components will absolutely COOK all for a 10c difference on the main chip. It's unnecessary and downright foolish.

The reason the shell doesn't have fan cuts right above the fan intake is because that airflow does not only cool the APU but also the other components on the motherboard. By completely bypassing that path, you have now basically killed almost all cooling to every other component like the SSD. Whomever designed this shell has no idea how important airflow pathing is. What a terrible product.

That mod won't cool the other components of the Steam Deck as well, only the CPU, which means that you won't get problems with your CPU, but you will melt your power supply on the Steam Deck.

See I got really excited seeing that second usb c port because fuck yeah then realized it was for charging the lights alone which is still smart no need to put more drain on the battery but man I feel like the position of the stock port can get in the way or at least for convenience a bottom mounted one would make strides in my gaming comfort when low on charge

Alright against the stock Schell, what about against the blue schell? Both are from JSAUX, one has a hole for the fan the other don’t, one can suck air through the bottom inlet the other manly trough the fan hole. This effects temps from your SOC and SSD keep that in mind

Why did Jsaux stop putting the fan hole cutout? I noticed on the newer shells it's missing now. Did they find a fault with it? I know the deck is designed to drag air across the board from the vent to the fan.
