The 18th Aeroflot Open runs from 19-27 February 2020 in the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow. The A Open, for players rated 2550+ and talented juniors, has an €18,000 first prize, while the total prize fund for the three opens and blitz tournament is €140,000.
Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. The event is sponsored by Aeroflot and organised by the Russian Chess Federation in cooperation with the Association of Chess Federations. Official website: acfed.ru

4 years ago I had seen abhimanyu puranik in city level competition in Pune, India. He was around 2200 that time and destroyed everybody with 9/9 and qúalified for State level chess. He has travelled a lot and played many chess competitions. It is good to see him become a GM. P.S. I scored 6/9 points in that competition 😅

Wow. I sat at my set and fooled around for a while trying to find the seven move mate. I had ideas of Bxc4. Qxc3 Na5., and I thought I had some good ideas of drawing the king out, but it always fizzled out around move 5 or 6. Anyway, great stuff.

Wow. I almost never find the moves and I managed to find the mate in 7. I bet it had something to do with already being primed to see the Bh3 threat. It just seemed like all the pieces fell into place (or fell apart, depending on your perspective) after Rxf1.

Agree, I also find this game far more reminiscent of Fisher's style than Tal's, quite similar actually to the 'game of the century' when he sacked the queen early only to checkmate much later with the remaining light pieces. Tal's positions, in contrast, tend to look far more complex, with conglomerates of pieces so complicated that no human would ever be able to see through all the variations (deep dark forrest...)

7:39, i think the winning move is rook to e2 cutting off the bishops, bishop captures, c6, king e8, then winning move: Queen e3, forking the king and bishop, king has to move and you capture the bishop, and trafe queens, you reach an endgame where you were already up a pawn and you're up a bishop Completely winning for white (if King goes to g7 then you fork on e7 instead)
