One of the pioneers of rock’n’roll, Jerry Lee Lewis also happened to be a country music singer who liked to call himself “The Killer.” He made a name for himself not just as a magnetic piano-playing singer, but also as an impulsive, gun-wielding wild man, who stoked epic rivalries with the likes of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. The Killer also notoriously married his 13-year-old second cousin, setting off an epic worldwide scandal.

@@KansasFarmer620 I know. Mike also made a couple of movies like "Office Space." He also created the character of Daria, but he did not work on her spin-off TV show. Instead , he gave the character to another animator to build a complete show around her.

I bet it pissed Jerry off how Elvis avoided the same situation by keeping her steady minor girl hidden in his home, and the underage lays that happened on tour didn't make headlines. I'm sure that MOST of my favorite musicians that rose to fame in the 1950s, 60s and 70s regularly slept with kids. Separate the art and the artist, that's the only way - otherwise it's very slim pickings out there. So many people, Elvis fans for example, try to go through a thousand hoops to deny and justify everything because they also want to adore the artist on a personal level. Anyway, Jerry's 1958 Sun 7" record "The Return of Jerry Lee," made in response to the public's reaction to the infamous marriage, is pretty hilarious.

@@bighippoincorporated4281 Sure. Wasn't trying to downplay anything. That wasn't the point of my post. Cousins once removed is probably worse. That means having a set of grandparents who are the great grandparents of the other person. Second cousins means having a shared set of great grandparents.

Yeah he pretty much shot himself in the foot with this one and put a cap on how far he could go. But to be honest, mariage at that age was not unheard of in some parts. Fact of the matter is, it's still in practice today in some countries, especially the middle east where girl can fetch a few goats.

If people just did the math, they'd realize that probably a majority of their grandparents or great grandparents have a very similar age gap. And I'm not condoning anything. But the fact is, 18yr age of consent is only been around for more or less 50yrs, it's very new compared to all of history. I don't have issue with people judging people from the past, but I do have issue with judging them based on our current societal norms

"Sick" or not, it was fairly common in the south back then, since most people weren't yet aware of the health problems caused by incest. The real "sick" part as I see it is the fact that she was only 13.
