The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is a proper off-roader and that means you'd never turn back even when the road runs out. We put that to the test en route to Shimla from Chandigarh via an entirely off-road trail without touching the tarmac even once, which meant that the Jimny could really shine in its natural habitat.

I am a long time Gypsy and Mahindra owner. I have just sold my 2021 Thar and 2014 bone stock factory OEM soft top Gypsy and switched to the Jimny, which is after all a modern Gypsy. And honestly I am extremely happy with the little Jimny. Nothing quite like it.

They should've kept the Gypsy name though.. Jimny is a downgraded name imo... Though I'm also an owner now... I'm trying to rebrand it in all ways to make it look like a Gypsy

@@anoop8610 the name gypsy is only relevant in India and Kenya and a few other countries to which Maruti exported the LWB Gypsy. Everywhere else it is the Jimny. I’m easy with it. What matters is the parentage, the DNA and the performance and capability and there is no denying any of these.

@@shankarbalan3813Hi, while the DNA matters most, it would have made more 'business' sense for Maruti to launch it as GYPSY, that would have helped in getting the numbers, and most important placed it in comparison to earlier GYPSY models rather than Thar. These 2 points would help avoid the negative image Jimny is getting. People BELIEVE in the GYPSY eyes closed.

@@aa947 maybe. but then, Jimny is a Global Model and it makes sense to bank on that. the real issue here in India is people prefer to buy big bulky vehicles to create ‘road presence”. The jimny is lightweight and agile,and fiercely competent. But unlike the Thar or Fortuner it does not represent “Real Estate” on Wheels. If that is what people want, then the Jimny is simply not for them.

@@shankarbalan3813Agree 100%. People who haven't even driven the Jimny are complaining. I am an MT owner, and I am satisfied with the performance. Hope Maruti will not go by numbers, the Thar comparisons & (unwarranted) brickbats when considering its sustainability in India.

Automatic is better to drive in the city. Efficiency is marginally lower. Manual is a nice short throw box, but does give better efficiency and control.
