Did any of you get the clues and realized what was going on during your first playthrough?

When cooking, both Lloyd and Kratos HATE using tomatoes, they do poorly with any meal that requires them, and never add them as a side ingredient. Which is a really, really cool detail most players will never pick up on! I love Symphonia's attention to detail like this...

This voice acting is so good that each character oozes personality despite highly limited animation and facial expressions.

Poor Kratos. All this time I thought he was being polite when he apologized so much. All this time it was grief.

Kvar's interactions with Kratos are so twisted. He knows Kratos can't respond to his taunts the way he wants to (lest he blow his cover), and he takes full advantage of that. What a sick, demented man.

The one thing I learned about playing Tales of Symphonia is Lloyd REALLY doesn't like to be asked his name, especially when you haven't given yours first.

Man, Yuan practically spelled everything out in that first scene. Kratos was the only possible candidate he could have been talking about.

The "Don't die" line gets me every time.

Looking back, Kvar has a lot of nerve to talk that way to one of the Four Seraphim, right in front of his face!

Also, there is the bit where Noishe is really trying to get into Iselia while Kratos is visiting Colette’s house. Very subtle, but clearly trying to see his master.

I know this is a much smaller point, and I'm probably reading too much into it, when Genis took the quiz against that one guy, and everyone else took it too, Kratos scored in the mid to upper 300s, he is much smarter than one would expect for a common mercenary.

in the gamecube version , when you first encounter kratos and he asks if his name was lloyd, kratos's lip animation still moves before he starts to speak again, i always thought it was because he was silently mumbling to himself.

Yuan spelled it out. Kvar gave you the whole essay. Kratos tries to keep his identity a secret, but he lets too much dialogue slip that the player understands after key events.

When I realized that kratos was lloyd's father, I said "Noishe knew all along, I feel stupid".

The manga version gave more hint on his relationship with Lloyd. I am glad it gave more insights on their connection

Just because the software had limitations doesn’t mean the writer’s imagination did. Kratos had to be my favourite father character.

This game was definitely ahead of it’s time.

Also forgot to include: When leaving iselia and heading to the Iselia Ranch for the first time, Noishe wanders into the village. Lloyd asks Noishe why he was heading into the village. Genis (to Lloyd): he was probably looking for you. Lloyd: You think so? This is also explained in the Restless Noishe skit that you also showed, but just builds it up a little.

You ended the Botta and Kratos scene in the Asgard Ranch too early. Lloyd follows Botta, Colette follows Lloyd, then Kratos eyes the duo before following suit. Colette ends up in front of Lloyd along with Kratos when the Mages open the door and attack. Kratos doesn't even attempt to protect Colette from the oncoming attack, instead he uses Guardian in front of Lloyd. His entire role as Colette's bodyguard should of been protecting her he could of easily tackled her and himself out of the way which would put Lloyd in danger but instead he uses Guardian to prevent the attack from hitting Lloyd. This also shows to that he is aware of Colette's Angel Transformation preventing her from feeling pain, despite her only telling Lloyd. Another one you missed is Kratos telling Colette to count the Stars and how no Human in a single lifespan can count them all. He would be amply aware of this since he has been counting the stars in the sky for centuries.

I feel bad for Kratos. Regal got to have a quick chat with Alicia again after all those years because she managed to stick around as an exsphere ghost, but Anna? Nope.

a small detail that i noticed this time that im playing it again is that they literally have the same eye colour and shape from the skit portraits it's so cool to see all these details and foreshadowing, even shown in the characters' designs (and seeing kratos' design now how even his outfit looks like he has wings haha) man, tos is just such an amazing game

I'm come to realize that there were *So Many* skits that I had either missed or forgotten about... nice touch there on showing them too.

You know, this could easily have been that Kratos knew and was friends with Lloyd's father when he questions at the gravestone. He asks if Lloyd's father is alive as if he could be searching for him. They could've easily went that route and Lloyd's father being a great man that died doing what he could. And Kratos just trying to avenge his friend. Thanks for making this! I like how it only goes up to the roost point.

The foreshadowing I like better is knowing that when the Renegades attack the temple, trying to prevent the chosen from getting the cruxis crystal, one of the Renegades laughs at being called a Desian. And says to die at the hands of the Desians they so hate. Basically admitting they aren’t Desians.

11:50 I don't remember receiving this cutscene, but damn, I love a bond between Lloyd and Kratos before he learns that Kratos is his father.

The foreshadowing was so thick, that when I first played the game I thought "Nah, they CAN'T be insinuating what I think they're insinuating. Is it really THIS unsubtle?" But then again, that's part of the charm of this game, and it's at least somewhat self-aware of that ham. Still, this game has a ton of other foreshadowing moments that I felt were very masterfully done. They were the more, "blink and you'll miss it" parts of the dialogue. Overall, Kratos excluded, Tales of Symphonia was when I truly realized that gaming was reaching an elevation from cheap entertainment to a literary art form.

The entire scene with meeting Yuan just confused me, the second time around after I found out blew my mind Edit: I just noticed that at 0:58 Kratos says Anna before Lloyd mentions her name now that I think about it Dirk and Lloyd probably didn’t know her name cause she died before she could tell them

There is the one scene after the first Sheena encounter, where after the fight the party attempts to understand who Sheena is, and why she's after Colette. There's a moment where Kratos says "there are always those who reject salvation" whilst the camera cuts to his legs, thus giving him an intense and imposing emotion to his words. As if he kinda broke character and snapped a little with his, at that time, disposition towards those who are going against his plans and the plans of Mythos and the Cruxis.

You know, I noticed none of these when I played the game for the first time. I'm now a quarter of my way through the second run on Mania, and before watching I can tell you there are a lot of moments that foreshadowed Kratos's identity, which made me love the game all the more.

ironically it took the scene in hima for me to fully realize that he really was the father of the main character. before that, I was wavering about him being a family friend or the real thing. I had already seen the anime years before playing the game and the details weren't as fresh.

guys i need help ; i have the memories of a scene, where kratos suggest to infiltrate the human ranche with their secret passage ; then raine (i think) replied with a ; "how do you know that there is a secret passage in that human ranche"; then Kratos panicked and said something like "i... remmember seing a rocks that was hidding something on our first visit". then neil (probably) replied ; yes i remember seing that too. or something like that. it is a really confused memory in my mind, and i think it is from the game, im not sure at all, maybe it was from the animation but i need to know where was this (it's the part of the game where you need to inflitrate a second time a human ranche that you didn't destroy, i can't remember wich one)

Fun Fact: Not sure how well this is known, but you can get Kratos to rejoin your party post betrayal in Zelos's stead. If you complete the side quests and talking to Kratos at Flanoir, Zelos, will betray you when you go to rescue Collette, you kill him, then after being down a party member for a while, Kratos will rejoin your party. Not the intended way to play the game, but I like Kratos more than Zelos so it was an easy choice.

I'll be honest back when this game was new and rpgs didn't saturate the market, i didn't see this coming. It's kinda shame nearly 20 years later and I find it hard to get an rpg with an original compleling storyline with unexpected twist. Persona 5 did a great job for myself though.

I dont get the point that noone of the five grand-cardinals knows about Kratos's face and identity. He is Lord Kratos - one of the four serpahim, almost same in charge of Cruxis as Yggdrassil is and most likely gave orders in some projectors to their subordinates. This is really really hard to belive. Espcially over 4000 years and thorugh all generations of their subordinates and companios along. ...And Kratos Met Anna after 4k years? What a strange co-incidendce he could have had many wifes and seen them all pass away. In the Flanoir Scene Kratos tells Lloyd how Kvar attacked Anna and Kratos. How the hell its possible noone knows about it? Thats the only thing absolutely not making sense.

I will always love this game, but I’m realizing now that I never noticed the dialogue/music audio balancing issues in cutscenes until now. Hope the remastered version coming next year addresses this.

6:04 tbh as a kid , from my second playthrough, i always thought kratos was just kind of pissed at lloyd at the time and was just being a dick. i thought the mistake he was referring to was having a kid XD
