www.vladtv.com/ - Famed Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli opens up about his relationship with Kanye West, which started when Kanye showed up to the studio to drop off beats for Mos Def, and the two hit it off from the start. He also explains how Kanye's passion has always led him to be outspoken, which Talib gave an example of with a story of Kanye opening up for him at the House of Blues in Chicago.

It kinda shines more light on how messed up talib was actually even though I can put myself in his place and understand but damn let the man come out in a wheelchair, talib even have a song where he spits a metaphor that talks about crabs in a barrel and how when one tries to escape the others pull him down. He basically did that crab shit right there, ironic.

+Arvin Roundstone I really don't and I wish I did. But it's more than that though. Normally, I value content over sound. However a really great rapper/producer team, makes it sound good. You know that feel when you listen to college dropout or late registration? You know, it's just a feeling you get inside, that says: "Wow this sounds good". After a couple of times listening, you really start to rock with the lyrics. That creative approach. mixed with purpose in the lyrics and dope production, is why I can still listen to those album today. Yeezus didn't give me that feeling, and that's why I'm not down with it

Kurt K When you think about it, it takes more skill because the piano keys are easy, of we could just press one key to get the same chords, on any of those other instruments, it would be the same, honestly , learning all those chords is cool but when it comes down to it, not everyone can do it which also brings me to , what if someone has this dope melody but can't play?? and it only sound right on Sax. , they may never get that idea out into the world to be used like all the piano melodies we already have and new songs constantly coming out from pianist

The beat is so important as far as the quality of the song. So to get famous to the dumber public you do what kanye did even tho he's not good at it imo. No disrespect to kanye cause you cannot take away his quality as a musician, just feel his production way more than his rap.

That's ONLY because Kanye's beats are dope. Give Kweli and Kanye the same beats and Talib will have the better songs, but that's not solely a testament to Kweli's lyrical abilities either it's also a testament to his song writing abilities (which are 2 different things). He's a better song writer than Kanye AND he's a better rapper than Kanye. Kanye makes incredible beats and he knows how to ride the beat flow wise but his song rarely have substance, and rarely go any deeper than the surface, especially not recently. For a long time I've been saying that if Kanye was humble enough to recognize his strengths AS WELL as his weaknesses and acknowledge that he's not a great rapper and give his beats to better song writers he'd be a huge part of making some truly great music.
@julianisrice
@julianisrice 10 жыл бұрын
bboyfan22 but you know what the problem is? Kweli CAN'T and DOES NOT HAVE THE SKILLS to make beats likewise to Kanye, so you cannot do that comparison. Kanye was introduced to the game by making beats for other rappers like jay-z and that's why he prospered and had the power to be a rapper if he wanted to. He already did that, and hes producing beats for pusha t so yeah
@bboyfan22
@bboyfan22 10 жыл бұрын
Julian Baile It's a perfectly legitimate comparison. I'm comparing their abilities as song writers and rappers. Kweli is better. Kanye has good beats because that's where his strength is, it's not in rapping. I really don't see how you can say it's an unfair comparison.

come on dog, I know the song very well thanks. I didn't quote the line because he didn't literally say it, but from memory I can recall "if skills sold truth be told, lyrically I'd be talib kweli"...jay-z even said in an interview he thinks talib is one of the best "technical" rappers of all time
