Gary Gulman is a comedian I love as a professional, a person and a friend. He first came on my podcast in 2016. When he was severely depressed. He could barely get out of bed. I admired him. Because he was really honest about it. He's doing better now. But there's no such thing as perfect when it comes to mental health. We all have our battles. Whether it's with self-doubt, fear of getting out of our comfort zone, wanting to be liked... or if it's the intense spectrum of clinical depression, which Gary brings light to. And laughter in his new HBO comedy special, "The Great Depresh."

I just discovered Gary Gulman about a week ago...love him! So articulate & funny...and beautifully honest and vulnerable. I can totally relate to his stories of growing up in the 70's/80's. He describes the absurdity and angst of our generation in the funniest ways. He needs his own sit com

This is one of the most refreshingly real interviews I've seen in a while. There is such respect flowing between these two. James, I love your interview style. Will check out more of your stuff. (Already a huge Gulman fan! : )

This interview is so refreshing bc they allow each other to speak at their own pace, resulting in a beautiful and rich experience. Often times you see interviewers interrupting and taking jabs at Gary, which he handles masterfully, but at the same time he is usually way smarter and has more to say, if they would just let him talk. Love Gary, always enjoyed his poignant observations over the years. I have much respect for the new direction in his career. And now I’m looking forward to discovering more of James Altucher’s material!

I wish he could talk about Gary’s voice. I find his voice crucial to the humor. I couldn’t deliver his jokes half as well.

And so...the depression Gary suffered is a direct result of his dysfunctional family dynamic ,divorce,guilt ridden parenting,poverty,and a brilliant,sensitive soul having to endure all that crap!!!
