Emacs. Is it just a text editor? No! It's more than that with some fun features you may not know about. Talk by Aidan H.

Thanks for spreading the word Aidan. Also, before anybody mentions it, we can change the blinking cursor just like everything else.

M-x animate-birthday-present is a great mode. For me, this puts emacs ahead of the rest, and by some measure!

It's always really hard to introduce a non-emacs user to an emacs-ecosystem. You've almost made it in this video 💪

Long time Emacs user here andvI enjoyed that. Great analogy with a web browser. Thanks for mentioning syzkaller I hadn't heard of it before. Was also intrigued by your pdf mode, I didn't know it could do that.

Pros: The strength of emacs was it was *incredibly* fast back when computers were often still time-share. Want to open up some enormous 50MB file on a VAX? No problem! Want to look at a memory buffer in hex? No problem! It would open enormous files and let you search through them with ridiculous speed. It does file management better than most file managers. It had various language modes long before various other IDEs like Eclipse or VS Code ever existed. You built, fixed compile errors, and searched code directories all within emacs with supreme speed. And it doesn't intrude in your flow the way Eclipse does or VS Code does. No popups, "let me complete that for you", or "you were trying to this, right?" This experience varies highly with the language. Cons: In the modern era, odd key combinations are a barrier to adoption. LISP is a very very cool language but not easy to learn. And I'm so tired with migrating my precious curated .emacs file from computer to computer.

I think it's literally the cursor the size of the slide (it also stops after some time, just like the cursor would), so he could have turned it off easily.
