Welcome back to Talking Dragon Age, the show where I talk about Dragon Age. This episode is about Blight magic and the Taint. Working off the little information we have, the theory here is mainly that - much like the Blight itself - will always corrupt and destroy anything it touches. However, there are defenses against it, and examining those defenses may hold the key to a cure.
This was a surprisingly long video, given how little information we have on the subject matter. I guess the Blight just always makes for long videos, huh?
If you have any suggestions on ways to improve the show or theories you'd like to see covered, please leave comments or message me directly.

Funnily enough, the joining ritual itself is created by using lyrium, blighted dragon (Archdemon) blood, and the blood of darkspawn.

I feel like Leliana has somekind of special ancestry that causes her resistance to the blight.

I have just replayed dragon age origins and dragon age 2. I will be replaying DAI. I love all the theories below! Secretly I think we are being fed a red herring. What if the Chantry is right all along. The golden city is not in the fade! What we see on the fade is a mirage cast by the spirits in the fade. What if the magisters were the only ones who ever entered the golden city as the chantry believes. What if the maker created the Blythe as a the chantry claims. Remember even Solas is dubious when he talks about it. Elves may not have anything to do with it all. I can't wait for the next game!

Blight Magic IS that friend no one like that just keeps coming around. This is a super great video, that wrap up really lays it out nicely, but I feel like I'm left wanting to know more about the Void. I wish we had more canon lore on the Void because there seems to be so much tied to it, like yin and yang in a way.

Leliana, I think was touched by Faith. In DAO she had a premonition or a vision..Leliana dreamt that she stood on a peak of sort and witnessed a great explosion. In this fiery hell she saw darkness snuffing out the light. Leliana then fell into the darkness. When she awoke, Leliana went for a walk where she saw a single rose bloom on a dead bush. I believe this to be the events at The Temple of Sacred Ashes, and the rose is the inquisitor. I say she was touched by Faith, but thats just my theory. It maybe the reason why Leliana is resistant to the blight.

I think that the dwrkspawn avoid the titan because lyrium, more exactly the song of the lyrium. It can be the opposite to the calling but the titan are weak than the blight so they use the song for repell them. I replayed origins today and i dont understand one thing about the dalish origin. When tamlen and mahariel found the eluvian, tamlen was "called" by the mirror, he saw a "A black city, underground"(Arlathan/black city?) and immediatly taint leave from the eluvian. The ruins where from tevinter, that eluvian can be linked to the black city and there is where the magisters enter in the fade? Also, the eluvian emit the calling, and if the theory about evanuris=old gods is true, the evanuris are emiting the calling throught the eluvian. When the mirror was broken, the calling stop. There is something confirmed about these ruins?

Thank you The Kingdom, great vid as always. So I thought red lyrium had the blight? I think that maybe it could be the opposite. Dragon are immune to the blight, so how does one create an Arch Demon? With red lyrium.. Probably the reason Corypheus is creating red lyrium by the ton. Maybe he doesn't want to kill the dragons, he wants them all blighted. Fiona who is immune to the blight is not immune to red lyrium, as we can witness in Redcliffe Castle.
@TheKingdomEntertainment
@TheKingdomEntertainment 6 жыл бұрын
matt richard Dragons aren't completely immune, they're just more resistant than most creatures. Corypheus created his by forcing red lyrium on it. It's worth noting that if you follow Cullen's advice on "Learn more about dragons", it says that dragons avoid red lyrium altogether on instinct. Also, Fiona isn't *immune* she was just cured that once. At least, that's how I understand it. The Seekers of Truth, on the other hand, are immune to the effects of red lyrium. Will probably make another episode for that at some point.

Really late to the party, but I wonder what would happen if a drwarven gray warden interracted with the Titan. Could they potentially be cured? Would the Titan have rejected them outright? Would the the Titan become contaminated with the taint, and if so would that cause red lyrium?
@TheKingdomEntertainment

Good thought! I think the Titan would reject them, though. If the connection was forced, then I'd assume red lyrium, yeah.

Can I just say first interesting video and theories. I like the idea regarding the blood of the great dragons and how dragons in general protect themselves. But one thing springs to mind. What about the old gods? They are supposed to be powerful dragons in their own right, so how is it possible that they are corrupted? If dragons form cysts around infected areas and if the blood of a great dragon could possibly hold some clue to a cure, why do the old gods become archdemons?
@TheKingdomEntertainment
@TheKingdomEntertainment 6 жыл бұрын
Sarcastic ray of sunshine They are more resistant than other creatures, but they can't form cysts indefinitely. If there's enough of it, even they will succumb. Actually, in the Cullen version of "Learn more about dragons", it's revealed they completely avoid red lyrium on instinct.

@martinnovoa3147
@martinnovoa3147 6 жыл бұрын
I think... willingly The archdemon commands the darkspawn and also use blight magic. A corrupted dragon(cory dragon) dont do these things, its a slave. The only tainted creatures what we seen ignoring the blight, using it, etc has a soul: Magisters, archdemons, maybe elven gods or forgotten ones, wardens, remille. "A soul cant be force uppon unwilling" so, the blight can not corrupt the soul and mind(it can made mad, but not control) Why these rules cant work with archdemons? As we seen, the archdemons are not really tainted, his body is like other dragons and they use blight magic. I defend the theory of old gods are evanuris and they cotrol the taint but. Before the elfs the dragons controled the world as gods, perhaps they are the dragon gods seeking for vengance(Elgar'nan "who kill his father" made me think about his history and... seems good)

I have a lot of questions but I just need to know: What do you mean by the Blight Magic "corrupts" the user? If this magic is anti creation, then how does it spread corruption instead of just destruction? And are the Old gods the Arch demons? I hear mentions of them here and there but I can never tell if they're one and the same!
@TheKingdomEntertainment
@TheKingdomEntertainment 2 жыл бұрын
Technically, the Old Gods are the Archdemons. It's *believed* in Thedas that the Old Gods are imprisoned beneath the Earth, uncorrupted by the Blight. Once the darkspawn reach them, they are infected and corrupted, and become Archdemons - twisted, insane versions of their old selves. As for Blight Magic's corruption... It's hard to put into words. I guess it can be thought of as destruction being the result of corruption. Sort of like being *infected* with a deadly virus, and sickness and death being the end result. And some just thing the metaphorical "virus" is either controllable, or simply worth it for the power it offers.

I would like to know how you research for that kinda of stuff. What is your sources I mean do you pu attention to every detail of the game or read forums or watch other people videos or what !? I mean I wanna do it my self to see if I come to the same conclusion as you did.

samir salim Largely I usually check out the Wiki, scroll through a page or several, then check out the source they provided directly. Those sources usually lead to Codex entries, World of Thedas books, or dialogue in game. Sometimes it also leads to the novels. Sometimes I'll have an idea before I research, sometimes my ideas come from the research. Often I'll look through any Codex entry even related to the topic to make sure I don't miss anything.

What are the names of the book and exact pages you looked into? Anything to do with the culture of Tevinter Imperium, The Orlesian Empire, The Qun or The Dalish elves? I know culture is a wide topic but I wanted to know more about social customs and law and the specific reason why the Orlesian and the Imperium fight each other beside seeing each other as a potential rival for supremacy. There was also this weird conversation between Solas and the Iron Bull about Qun culture and how the Qun control what people think or something of that sort? is it possible you could do a video on that or give me leads, I haven't done this before?
@TheKingdomEntertainment

samir salim The best resource for all that is The World of Thedas books. It's basically an encyclopedia of Dragon Age. If you don't want to spend money, I would just read the Wiki

I have all the books but haven't been bothered to start reading them. In fact, i don't think i wanna read them in order, i just wanna read things that i am interested in for when i am in the mood. You know i was wondering if there was any timeline of events for what happened in Thedas. And I know that Orlais was based on France but not everything had French elements. So who was the Qun, Imperium and the dwarves were based on in terms of culture. i would really like to explore the Orzammar and other Thaigs in the next games.

If the Blight was created by the fade, wouldn’t Blight magic still come from the fade?

Tyler Todd I’m pretty sure when you talk to Avernus he says something along the lines of the blight is alien to the demons of the fade, which would lead me to believe the blight is from somewhere else. Popular theory is besides sealing the elven gods away Solas also sealed the Blight away in the Black city.

Nikki I feel you may be right, cuz Wiesrupt, wardens main base, holds a lot of secrets we don’t know about yet. We’ve only met warden commanders as the highest ranking wardens. We haven’t met any of the wardens that command that place. And if they do still command it, they’ve gotta either have a cure to keep it going, or have access to the deep roads, which I doubt they would go all the way to ferelden to go to orzamar

I believe that Alistair is tainted. He often talked about that even from Origins. He talked about the dreams and explained it to our Warden. His mother, Fiona, got cured, and I think it was that Alistair in her womb took the Taint away from her (that is my guess) and so Alistair was left without sufficient protection (like an overwhelmed Great Dragon) to cure himself when he went through the Joining Ritual. I don't think Alistair will get cured without help, or that a female Warden would be cured via pregnancy by Alistair or giving birth to his child. (My 2 cents.)

So dragons build cysts... That means the old gods are not dragons, because they get infected. I believe the dragon is just a form and that they are simply magi. Or they get infected willingley to harness the power but get overwhelmed.
