i just bought mine with 140k miles and i got somewhat lucky with the previous owners maintenance, hpfp and wp+tstat were done, i went in with a budget coming from an n52 knowing what to expect from bmw and i paid $5k for parts and just did all the maintenance on my own, jesus christ this things an upgrade from a 328i

If I had known our humble host here was not a DIY guy I wouldn't have sat and listened until thre quarters of the way through. No one that NEEDS a shop to fix your cars should be looking to drive a HOT ROD and that's what the N54 is. A classy Hot Rod.

Indy (independent) shop is what you were looking for. I'd never get an N54 if i weren't working on it myself. I've saved AT LEAST 10K by doing ALL my own maintenance and upgrades.

My chargepipe is still stock lol 189k miles and has held up on stage 2+

I got my e92 December 2019 for $11k Im $16k deep into it on mods and maintenance alone. I got the manual transmission on my second twin disc clutch. I’m on pure 600 twins and all the possible bolt ons, inlets, outlets, etc I had to learn how to work on it myself. Thanks to all the KZfaq DIY videos 😂

If you don’t know how to work on cars just don’t buy it. Those shop bills are pricey. Whenever you buy one you have to do all maintenance first then start performance mods. If you hear anyone complain they probably don’t work on their own car and/or bought a used one beat to shit and did no maintenance and threw some mods at it then complain when shit start going wrong. Don’t be that guy

The problem with N54 is the injectors because they are really expensive, other than that is the same crap with any other BMW

i miss my n54 335i. only reason i kept mine for so long is like you said, DIY. preventative maintenance, and i include service records from the previous owner as preventative maintenance too cause if they neglected the car it'll shit on you.

Bro so if you have n54 you need can work on it yourself and all that money you spending to let someone fix it can go into your mods to make the car better

Came from the M5X the N54 is the highest I’d go as far purchasing a New BMW. However they reliable you just the money to catch up on maintenance never trust people’s words replace it so you have the piece of mind. This why I’ve never been restrained in my life with a vehicle because I am the owner people look for when buying a car 😂 also coding was present somewhat on the E46 platform 😂

I just copped my 535i last week. So far so Good 😂😂😂

that being said i have the 535i, totally underrated car, im running a stage 1 plus tune, and a motive flex fuel kit usually around a 40% blend, and i have a custom dual 2.5" stainless catback exhaust with an x pipe i made myself. just tonight i was coming home from work and had a newer audi pull up on me all hot, gave me 3 honks and i took off on his ass, im talking bus lengths. then some random honda civic si i said pfft later, then a newer benz and i had to show him what was up, and finally a 340i and pulled away on him like he wasnt even trying. i have a lot of really unique mods getting ready to go on the car soon too, completely custom low pressure fuel system, s55 water to air intercooler im going to refrigerate the intercooler coolant using the a/c, catless down pipes, and ill be using a factory air box from the 535d for passenger side to feed one turbo inlet, and a factory passenger side air box from either an e60 550i or early e60 that had the m54 engine to feed the other. they will both be able to utilize the cold air snorkels like the m5 had and one intake per turbo will be essentially no restriction. been looking for an m5 differential, been looking in to wider wheels and tires, and also the msport front and rear bumpers. and eventually i wanna do the 8hp 8 speed transmission swap. thats my recipe to hurt some feelings.

Got a 2013 the last year of 335iS with DCT, 58k miles on the dash & im never getting rid of it, lol. price is just rising on them, im on my build journey now. No doubt B58 is a beast.

I just picked one up with 10k worth of parts on it, new WP, etc. chargepipe, downpipes, welded diff, drilled and slotted rotors, VRSF everything… 6 speed M sport. $2k. It was throwing coolant out the head from some freeze plugs and I put a thermostat on it. It’s running great and fast as shit.

This guy's doesn't know what he's saying. He'll no, you aren't making above 400 hp with a dou cone intake, intercooler, charge pipe, and down pipe. If you got a tune like a jb4 or a Mhd, you may be hitting 400, but not exactly. What about upgraded coils and colder spark plugs? You will then need a full aluminum radiator and water pump as well as inlets and high pressure gas pump. After that you van now consider you pushing from 450-500. If you want more power then go for upgrade turbos. If you only got a stage 1 like this guy said you guaranteed do not have 400 + hp
