Levy Rozman, more popularly known as GothamChess, is an online chess streamer who earned the International Master title in 2018. A former scholastic chess coach, he is passionate about chess accessibility, and has donated $100,000 in scholarship funds for chess programs in education. He currently boasts the biggest chess channel on KZfaq, where he focuses on creating fun and educational content. His channel has nearly 5M subscribers and 85M total monthly views. This phenomenal growth aided in Levy's transition from making straightforward tactics videos in his apartment to running live commentary at chess and chess-boxing events.

I’ve recently arrived into the chess scene (thank you Ms. Harmon) and I’m quickly falling in love with the sport. There is so much potential for it to be so huge. Coming from a background of marketing and Magic the Gathering I can honestly say that you and content creators like you are the best chance chess has to remain and grow in the greater public consciousness. I think back to the Grand Prix circuit and Pro Tours (Dark Ascension) and what made them so big. It was the stories. It was Rich Hagon performing magic ;) and taking you along for the ride of not only the individual games but the journey of the players to hit those big stages. You do this in spectacular fashion. I wish you the best of luck in your journey to GM and I hope to be able to shake your hand at a tournament someday.

It's funny that chess is assumed not to have a product in the slow classical format, because that's exactly what's got me into the game in the last year. At my age, I enjoy putting on a six-hour chess broadcast and easing back into my chair. I often have it on while I'm working too - the World Championship match was a steady companion while I worked from home last year. It's like watching a cricket game. Rapid is fine, but Blitz less so, and Bullet has no interest for me at all.

@@WhizzerdSupreme A “successful teacher” is measured by the number of students who are motivated to listen and learn. Levy has found the perfect combination of entertainment, knowledge, and passion that resonates with millions of people. He is a living example that you don’t need to be a GM or an authority to qualify as a successful teacher with millions of views, and serve as inspiration for many others; you just need to find the right language that your target audience can understand (as he mentions in this video). My full respect to Levy for his well-deserved success.
@WhizzerdSupreme
@WhizzerdSupreme 2 ай бұрын
@rmmaccount I don't necessarily disagree with everything you said, but it still doesn't change the fact that he is FAR from the internet's greatest/most successful teacher. He just knows how to play the internet game. He's more of a successful chess streamer than an actual chess teacher. He just plays and says "play like me chat" and then gets his name blown up on Wired because the actual teachers and pros are too busy to do that.
