The issue with Simone argument is, for years people have warned Levy this was the trajectory for Tottenham for YEARS, and he’s completely ignored them. You have past scouts, board members, players, managers all leaving and becoming widely successful. Why is that? Why can they leave Tottenham unsuccessful and then find success at their next job? The fact we are in 2023 and Levy is just NOW CONSIDERING the use of statistical analysis to make data driven decisions at a footballing level is appalling.

He isn't wrong though. by his own admission he spent more than he had coming in, because he wanted success for the club, he thought he could buy his way into the top 10 for more Sky money, and he failed, because the more expensive players he brought in didn't perform as expected. The difference is that Simon gambled with his own money, but the fans want to gamble with someone else's money.

Daniel Levy is the man to blame. The culture comes from the top. He was lucky to fall into Kane and Son at the same time and then failed to properly invest in pieces around those two. For a club like spurs, this era was precisely the time to “go for it”. And levy continually let managers down.

As an ex-player, How the manager/coach deals with you is hugely important. Conte went in there thinking his chest-beating, tub-thumping style would spark the players into life...but it didn't. Some players don't react well to a strong hand. I personally preferred to be challenged and cajoled; some like to be praised; others like a scrap to get them fired up. Fans are only the most important part of football, in the minds of the fans. Money is the most important part of football, club owners, recruitment teams, managers, players, put money before any other consideration. In the olden days, before the advent of the Premier League, fans were the most important part of football, because all of the money came from fans, that all changed when the Premier League was formed with the billions from Sky, which introduced commercialisation on a massive scale. The club that finishes bottom of the Premier League will receive at least 10x the money from Sky, than it does from it's fans. The lower down the football pyramid that you go, the more important the fans become, because the fan income will be vital for the survival of the club, and in most cases will outstrip the income from Sky, via the EFL, below the Championship i mean.

Only the most obtuse and opaque pundit cant see the last 20 years of nothing on the pitch falls onto the lap of one man and one boardroom. It's not only about Conte, its Jose, Nuno, Poch, AVB, Jol and all the players that have come and gone in all this time. The players we did get was bad enough but its the list of players we didn't that hurts more. Its failure after failure, frustration after frustration. Pattern recognition is one of the keystones of measuring intelligence so it surprising that Simon cant or wont see that the only common denominator in everything that happens at Tottenham is Levy.

“Reoccurring failure” Spurs have come on leaps and bounds under Levy’s management. Kept their best players like Son and Kane, best stadium in the league, fiscally responsible, hugely increased revenue, ambitious managerial appointments and backing in the transfer market( spent nearly £200m last summer) what do Spurs fans expect? They are never going to be serial winners as there are several clubs who are either richer (City, Chelsea, Newcastle) or bigger (United, Liverpool, Arsenal)
@DilbertWhitehead
@DilbertWhitehead Жыл бұрын

@Epsilon04
@Epsilon04 Жыл бұрын
@@DilbertWhitehead regular top 4 though is likely a thing of the past for everybody bar City. There are now seven clubs in the mix every year with the emergence of Newcastle and that’s before you throw ambitious clubs like Villa in as a shout. United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, City and Spurs also all believe they should be in the top 4 every year, so Spurs don’t have a divine right. As for the “used to be a big club” they still are one, but in terms of being a successful club they haven’t been for a while. Their last FA cup win was in 1991 and last league title in the early 60s. Point I’m making is that people are talking like Levy has ruined Spurs and presided over a significant demise, when in reality he has moved the club forward on and off the pitch even if things haven’t been great recently.
@DilbertWhitehead
@DilbertWhitehead Жыл бұрын
@Lunihan - and despite that they should still have a lot more pulling power for top players (who aren't just money mercenaries) than those other clubs. They are still defined as one of the Top 6, maybe the 6th one but still technically there and will be in terms of fanbase and global pull etc. The landscape does all seem to be changing though so maybe you're right and they've already fallen out of it 🤷🏻‍♂️ everything feels a lot more short term these days so if Villa and Brighton have one great season I can understand people thinking of them as bigger than Spurs

Come on Simon, Levy is to blame. He's been in charge for 22 years and counting, appointing and then sacking all the managers you're trying to blame, with no plan and no clue. How can it be the manager's fault, when we've had a total of 17 in the past 23 years?! Yes, the players aren't up to scratch, but who's chosen most of the current squad, and why do we have around £200m-worth of players out on loan that no one wants? It's because of Levy, who always thinks he knows best, and ignores good advice he doesn't like (e.g. don't hire Paratici). By all means sack Mourinho just before a cup final, with no plan, leading to 72 days' search for a replacement, hiring poor old Nuno at the end of it, as 7th choice. Well done Daniel! Starve Poch of a rebuild and sack him instead of backing him? Marvellous! And of course don't even think of bringing him back when you have the chance, either, that would be far too sensible. Conte wasn't the right fit for Spurs, a 'win now' manager who is used to having a decent squad to work with from the get-go. Bad choice Daniel, a pathetic attempt to buy yourself out of trouble with the fans, aided and abetted by that crook Paratici. All the managers had their faults and made mistakes, they're only human, but none of them caused this situation. Now we're back in pre-Nuno mode, 60 days and counting since Conte sacked himself, working our way through a list of managers who won't come to us because of Levy. Who else is to blame for that, Simon? And now the toxic teletubby has run out of road. A supporter for 60 years, I really can't see where we go from here. Poch, on the other hand, knows exactly where he's going and good for him.

They are the players you pay over market value for, like Man city had to at first and Newcastle have to now. Levy just doesn't have it in him to do this.

It's weird... Simon thinks that if he starts each sentence with "Now I'm not Daniel's biggest fan..." or "Now Daniel and I have had our differences..." that we won't notice that EVERY time he's talking about Spurs Simon will defend Levy in whatever the argument is.

Simon talks so much BS! Big words can't hide Levy's failure over the years and he has turned spurs into a laughing stock. Simon ran palace, known as a yoyo team while he was aspiring to mediocrity but that is not enough for spurs fans, we are looking to be a big team and never could work out why we always seemed to fall short, Levy sacked Conte because he exposed the enic setup
@diddyxl

Who sacks them? Why sack Poch? Jose?(!), Conte*. Conte is a winner. Why he doesn't work is when he isn't given what he wants. His words were the most poignant of all. Some managers know how to deal with superstars and not B teams. When faced with mediocrity some like Conte hit the wall and can go no further. Conte would have done wonders at United the past summer. He got to buy $250M in players. That whole team save Son and Kane should be wiped off. Start that by selling Kane immediately. Close it for $100M and GET GOING. Oh what's this? You have no manager to provide a vision and identity? After the Glazers, Levy will get the 'worst owner' accolade. EVERYONE I know agrees with Conte's words. Especially the Spurs fan. So Simon, do us a favor already.

the hardest thing with the spurs job is that you have had 6 or 7 transfer windows of Mourinho & Conte signings which arent very attacking, look at how many poor defenders, defensive midfielders and hard working wing backs they have for the 3 - 4 -3 style . it will take a lot of unpicking

Yes Levy must take the blame for a lot of it, I remember he was falling over himself to give Dele new contracts again and again, while an absolute baller in Eriksen wasn't getting any of it! We let Van Der Vaart leave and replaced him with the beyond useless Clint Dempsey. Replaced Berbatov with Bent and wasted 90% of the Bale money on complete dross! We have two consistent players in our ranks Kane and Bentancur, the rest can all leave and yes that includes Sonny.........Please don't get me started on "the wall" Hojberg who gets done by every single team we play against and is technically abysmal. PS. Not sure what's been happening with certain players performances in recent weeks as I gave up watching the garbage.

Conte was 2000% right about the team and the club he trained them all week and then they went and played a different way. Mr know all should take into account he lost three good friends and had Major surgery. Conte in a winner why would you want to stay will a group of millionaires who have no balls, no fight and no interest in anything but their bank account. And I would put money on Kane being the selfish one, 65 plus direct free kicks and one goal what has that cost us.

Levy brought in Jose and Conte to get a tune out of the current squad. He was not prepared to invest in the players needed to allow us to compete at the top of the table. Someone should ask Simon the real question, is Levy prepared to take the risks on major signings on and off the pitch? Or is he happy to spend the minimum in order to achieve a top 4 spot season after season?

Exactly. Earlier Simon was saying Tottenham need a Klopp type of manager, who can do well on a tight budget, etc. But Tottenham had one, Poch, but like you said, Levy didn't back him. If Josef Stalin owned a football club, Simon would be defending him too. It's just ridiculous.

@talkSPORT As an ex-player (rugby), how the manager/coach deals with you is hugely important. Conte went in there thinking his chest-beating, tub-thumping style would spark the players into life...but it didn't. Some players don't react well to a strong hand. I personally preferred to be challenged and cajoled; some like to be praised; others like a scrap to get them fired up. The best coaches know the individual and manage them accordingly. This is why I think Pep is the best manager on the planet

Obvious to even a neutral levy brought in big name managers, promised them the world to get them to sign then held the purse strings on top tier players to directly replace that starting 11. Keeper, centre half, centre mid been crying out for quality since vertonghen/dembele/eriksen etc etc
