They're not the greatest of players, but they know their system, trust the coach and know their roles. That's the difference between a good coach and a bad one. Brian Clough was a master at this. His NFFC team of the 70/80s were not the best individuals, but as a collective and coached correctly, they were winners. Southgate is clueless. How do you get Foden & Bellingham in their best positions? Well Foden is best in that inside right pocket, cutting in and shooting on his left. Bellingham likes to drift left and drive in from there. So play them in those positions and build the team around them, it's not difficult. Kane is up front, Rice in the middle, Stones & Guéhi at the back. Walker will play because of his experience and recovery pace. Pickford in goal.That leaves 3 more positions to fill. The most obvious is to go with a back four, Trippier/Shaw at left-back, and two wide players to stretch the pitch. On the right it can be Saka/Palmer/Bowen, on the left you could play Gordon/Saka. We can press high, or if needed, Bellingham drops alongside Rice and we defend a bit deeper. An alternative could be to play like Bayer Leverkusen. Guéhi, Stones and Walker form a back three; Rice and Mainoo sit in front of them; Saka/Shaw plays as a left wing-back, Trent as a right wing-back. But Southgate isn't about to change the system in the knockout stages of a major tournament.

Palmer did more attacking in 15 minutes than the whole squad in three games. He has to start next game.
