He had a couple of good moments against Iceland. But one player, no matter how good they are, won't solve any problems in all departments of the team. Though I am a big Palmer fan and expect to see him used in the next game when we win 4-0.

Trouble is we're so heavily imbalanced in midfield. Aside from Mainoo or Wharton, we don't really have anyone to play a defensive midfield role. Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Bowen, Eze and Gallagher are all attacking midfielders. If Southgate sticks a ball winning midfielder in front of the defence then he's got to sacrifice one of Trent or Rice. Can't see him dropping Bellingham or Foden (or even Kane).

@blairrobert3438 I can't speak for Palmer but Gordon would do a fine job supporting the left side. Have Tripps/Shaw patrol a little further up like a LWB would. On the right side Walker can easily do the same. We've already seen him run further up the pitch this tourney and Pepe has used him more than a few times as an inverted fullback. He could definitely support from the right. The only thing in question is Palmer and his ability to track back and win 50/50 balls. It won't be worse than what we've already seen.

Two strikers works for me. But I'd put Bellingham in the centre and Palmer as the no 10. Which is where he has dominated games last season. (Especially against Man City). Shaw would push up on the left as he did in the last Euros so well. Good call.

huh? it actually improved things. The players that came on actually moved. Kane was moving, but moving towards his own goal, Watkins came on and was moving towards the opponents goal. The team that started looked like they were severely exhausted from the first minute - they were stood still all game.

Watkins did more in 5 minutes than the entire front 3 did all game. (Kane’s goal doesn’t make up for him playing like a gazelle in headlights.)

That is what we need more number 10s on the pitch so they can all drift into the middle & give us absolutely no width whatsoever. Kane, Foden, Palmer & Bellingham all like to occupy the same space, we need players in the positions they play in, get Shaw in, Gordon on the left, Mainoo to partner Rice & play Foden or Bellingham as a 10.
