I loved this subject! I've always been curious about the animal similies in Korean culture, now I know! Next time, can you talk about the animals in dreams? I have heard it more than once, where someone will say something like, "I dreamt of a beautiful peacock spreading its feathers" in regards to a child being born or some big event. Thanks!

I kinda agree with Hyojin on describing a girl as being like a fox is not really swearing at her. It could mean she's manipulative, but in general I think it means more like she knows how to behave in difficult situations. Anyhow, great video and awesome content! Keep 'em coming!

Could you add more sort of subs during the video? Like when you say "ttok-tu-kku-bi gat-eun gadeurida", could you add a Korean sub for that? I'm sure there are a lot of people besides me who don't know, for example, how "gadeurida" is written in Korean, so that would be very useful :) P.S.: Your show is really nice and cognitive, and I enjoy watching it a lot ;)

In Italy, 강아지/puppy is a derogative simile. It means the person has no will-power and does whatever their girl/boyfriend orders. Also, you can say someone is a 'cagnolino'/강아지 when they follow someone else all the time.

thank you guys for another cool enjoyable episode, most of those expressions were familiar to me, since i watch a lot of dramas. here's some information about similes in tow countries i'm familiar with. : both 개 & 돼지 are also an insult in both saudi arabia (where i live) and somalia (where i'm from. and actually we use 곰 instead of 돼지 to describe a fat person in both countries.

In Quebec Chicks is a word used by older and younger men to describe a sexy girl, we are called frogs by Canadians because we are french but I have called square head which is what french people call Canadians in my province, because I am bilingual I was called both names and they are meant in a negative way. Now that I am older I never hear people say frog or square head anymore :)

I've noticed that a lot of native Korean speakers pronounce "toad" and "soap" differently. It should sound (in English) as if it were spelled "tode" or "sope" The "o" is long in other words. Sorry if this is out of line, just realized this is not the first time I've heard this so decided to mention it.

Some Swedish ones.. we have things like sly/clever as a fox, large as a bear, strong as an ox, and instead of the English scardycat (fearful cat) we have fearful hare (räddhare), and uh.. I think we have smells like a pig for smelling bad but I honestly can't remember for sure since it's more common to describe a place to smell like a pig stye. We have swine for a man that is pretty bad towards women usually in a pretty nasty (insinuated perverted and/or selfish) way, we have bullhead for someone stubborn of either gender, chickenbrain for someone kind of dumb+crazy and sheephead for someone extremely dumb. We also have "like pouring water on a goose" for someone or for a situation where things dont really stick or let things bother them, or poor listening. And for off topic we can also call bad men a "skitstövel" which directly translated means shitboot. He is like a boot full of poop. XD Oh and stubborn as a donkey is another one! And quiet as a mouse. And "latmask" (lazy worm) for somebody really lazy. :)

You can be 'as stubborn as an ox/mule'. You can also be 'strong as an ox'. People that have really bad eyesight, and can't see without glasses are 'blind as a bat' (and sometime used as an insult when someone can't find something that's right in front of their face ^^). Then there's 'proud as a peacock' and 'wise as an owl'. But I feel like as I get older, I hear fewer animal similes. It seems like they're a bit more prevalent in school that out. =P

Hyunwoo, hablas muy bien español felicitaciones! I'm from Ecuador and we also use animals to refer to people. For example we use "perra" or "zorra" which means "bitch". We also use "cerdo" to discribe people that is nasty...very insulting but are often used. By the way "chik" means "lady" in english but is a spanish word. Actually "lady" in spanish is written like this "chica" but because the last syllable is "ca" the sound is the same as the letter "k" in spanish, so "ca" it's replaced by "k".

개 is not an insult for an actual dog. Only cant you use it to a person. 개새끼 is kinda controversial because it used to mean literally a dog's offspring (puppy) and an insult for a person, but it's been used as an insult too much, the literal meaning is faded away

In the northern U.S., you can call someone a "goose" if they act foolishly or react to a situation in an unusual way. "Boar" is used for someone - almost always a man - who acts inappropriately in public or without concern for general public etiquette. "Kitten" is used as a sort of nickname or term of affection for young and teenaged girls. Usually only family members will call a girl kitten - grandmothers and older aunts mostly.

Ah, well since I am old, let me tell you that back in the 70's and 80's "chick" in reference to girl was absolutely NOT intended as a derogatory remark. They were COOL girls and we wanted to be around them. "Lets go pick up some chicks" was standard weekend activity. If she expressed that she didn't like it, we wouldn't call her that.

Hello, In Perú (spanish): Fox, Wolf, Pig, Dog, Chick, have the same meaning than in korean. When people is very lazy or like to loose the time in anything just be in bed or take the sun you can say: Lagarto (Lizard) or in a funny way: What does he/she doing? He/She is Lizarding = Lagarteando (loosing the time) That word doesn't exist in diccionary, but we use. When someone is dump or can't catch the wave is a "Guanaco" thats very insulting. The womans who have namy childrens are Mother Hen!!

Chick isn't really disrespectful, but it can be depending on how you say it (like most things in English). Think of it as the female equivalent of "guy". It's mostly used for strangers. So the girl I sat next to at the bus stop today was "some chick", but I wouldn't call my friend's gf "the chick he's dating" as it seems like I'm distancing myself from her. It's a small difference and no girl would be mad if you called her that to her face, but she might feel you're being a little cold.
