The numbers are so high, yet even the highest note is worth so little. In the Eurozone no one casually walks around with the highest bank note (500€). You can't even pay with it for a lot of things and in most places people would give you strange looks if you did pay with it. In fact you will have a hard time buying bus tickets with the three highest notes (100€, 200€, 500€) and I believe in most places bus drivers won't accept 50€ either (though you might be able to buy tickets at a station with it). I'll rarely carry anything higher than 50€ and in fact I don't think I've even seen a 500€ note in person. Few people ever pay that much in cash with a single note. I don't think there are any ATMs that will carry those in the first place. For reference, at the current exchange rate, 500€ are about 662,603 원.

High? Haha, you should check out the currencies in Vietnam, Bali, Turkey... There it's like in the THOUSANDS for a drink. 1 dollar is like 23,000 dongs.

@@amberleaf7 Turkey drop zeroes like 10 years ago so you pay like 5-8 lira for a drink or something... but in the past people use millions but whatever.

Coworkers keep telling me that it's expensive to take a vacation in Seoul. Though none of them have actually been there, so that should have been a clue not to listen. From what you said is 50,000 won is basically $50.00. Now I know I won't starve when I ever get out there for my 7 day vacation. Thanks :)

So if a thousand wan equals about a dollar then that means the biggest bill in korea is 50 ? I live in switzerland and we have 10 20,50,100,200,1000, the thousand fank bill doesn't get used a lot but 100 and 200 get used a lot. If 50 were the highest it would be a big problem.

Here in the US, I would say that most people carry around $20 or $50 as their largest note. It's still good to have larger notes in case you want to make larger purchases and don't want to use credit or debit cards.

what are those 1,000,000won and 100,000,000won paper that you see rich people in kdrama? are they cheques?
@MarcusLow
@MarcusLow 11 жыл бұрын
I think in Korea they have something like cashier cheques, which are regarded as legal tender (real money). You see it in dramas all the time. They look like the usual cheques and have the amount printed on them, but I don't remember if names are required to be printed on those. In dramas these can typically go up to the million-won numbers. Hyojin noona and Keith hyung, please do a Part2 to this video about this too!!!

In Singapore we have a really huge margin between inexpensive food and expensive food. There's a whole ton hawker centers that house tons of stalls selling a huge variety of Singaporean and non Singaporean food, all of them $4 at most. But food in like shopping malls or higher class restaurants are I guess the Normal price or a little higher than most other countries.
@ieatcheese9950
@ieatcheese9950 8 жыл бұрын
In America it's weird. Foodstalls would cost about the same as food in the mall. We actually dont even have Foodstalls at all in most places, we just have food trucks. The cheapest food is fast food and junk food. Food that is good and healthy is actually the most expensive out of any food. Btw, our names are similar.

Yea, I've seen those too. I'm not really sure how they work though. It looks something like a cashier's check that we have in the US. If that's the case then it's more convenient to have 100,000 and larger notes. I personally prefer using credit cards to pay as long as you pay it off every month. Most credit cards even give you back a % of what you spend. I usually get back around $50 a year... ^_^

In order to use them, you have to sign on the back of the 수표, and sometimes they ask you to leave your phone number too. The thing is, though, I haven't seen people using 수표 that much these days. Maybe in the business world but not so much in everyday life.

The biggest note in Australia is the $100 note, which is around 107,000 won. Wow. I'm kinda shocked. It costs around $50 to go to an AFL (Australian Football League) game here..
