I think the second male lead thing should be called the Jordan Fisher effect. It was the first thing I noticed watching the movie. They always got a lightskin that can dance and has better chemistry with the lead😭.

Yea im 5'2 and had guys do this to me too. I think its less to do with height and more to do with girls who are confident in themselves (or at least outwardly seem to be) and boys who are not. Insecure guys don't seem to be able to handle girls who are living happy and fulfilling lives and would be perfectly fine without the guy. If they don't value their own existence/lives they want a girl who needs and relies on them so they can feel secure in the relationship.

Right… and I feel that part of the racial aspect of the casting is to make the guy desirable, they don’t have an issue séxűälǐzǐng him in many of these cases 🙃, but not an actual emotional contender because he doesn’t have enough “flaws.” And on the one hand you have executives wanting to keep up with “trends” of having some diversity and on the other hand you have the people who admit they are waging a “culture war” against all diverse representation in media. I don’t know how much influence producers of a specific movie or tv show on Netflix even have in some of these cases. And then. Well. You can see what led to the writers’ strike… Clearly writing is often not valued lol. (Sometimes not by audiences either, but that’s a whole other thing.)

Yeah I thought this movie actually added more depth to most of the characters… but it had really nothing to do with being tall. I would’ve wanted more of the “second love interest’s” story about him being overweight, because body image in men is not talked about much. I also think we need more of a “See you in chemistry” response to “I love you” in movies 😂 I’m also 5’8 but with 5’2 energy 🙃

She was kicked off dance moms for being too tall. She was humiliated infront of the entire nation multiple times by abby lee for being too tall. This movie is just a slap in the face to abby lee. I wish they would have publicly stated this so people would stop being confused on this movie🤦 is the movie cheesy and dramatic? Yes. Is the main love interest and the older sister actually in a relationship? Yes. Did she prove to abby lee and all the other jerks who judged her for being too tall that she can still make it in the industry? A BIG FAT YES!!!! I mean look at the heights of everyone else in the movie. They intentionally picked short actors to make her look even taller. I'll support anything she does bcs dance moms was a horrid show with a horrid leader!

As someone who has watched the show more than a dozen times, her height was never something of super importance and the sole reason she was kicked off hahaha abby has had other tall dancers before, the group she was in even had other girls of similar height to her. she was kicked off because abby didn't like the way she danced (and because of her behaviour, which was definitely very unreasonable on abby's part given that Ava didn't actually do anything wrong) and most importantly, because abby reallyyy didn't like her mother lmao The only time her height was mentioned on the show was in LA when her and her mother showed up uninvited because her mother didn't think they had been kicked off the team. That being said, we can never truly know what happened behind the scenes and outside of what the producers wanted the audience to see on the show. Abby was an extremely bellow the belt person.. she humiliated, degraded and bullied lots of girls on that show.. But, man season 4 as a whole was a bit of a mess lol

Honestly I don't think her leaving the dinner was bad. If he's gonna yell at her about being a burden because he's insecure that she's doing well in life she doesn't have to sit there and take it just because he lit some candles. If he wanted to have a mature, calm conversation and express how he's feeling sort of ignored and undervalued then awesome but if he's gonna throw a hissy fit then I fully support her ditching his ass. She doesn't owe him her time, energy & appreciation if he's gonna yell at her and project his own insecurities onto her

1:12 to be fair a lot of the tall woman dating short male celebrities are supermodels I do have a lot of sympathy for tall girls (over 5’10) because although it’s not socially unacceptable - if you’re a regular girl dating a regular boy that’s a lot shorter than you, you WILL get some looks and unwanted attention. so it’s not like it’s COMPLETELY out of the ballpark to think dating a short guy as a tall girl will raise SOME eyebrows.

I actually know of a lot of girls that ended up developing eating disorders growing up as tall skinny girls. I'm so sick of people feeling the need to compare their struggles. It's not a competition. Can we just acknowledge that struggles are valid. These things don't feel comparable. It's something that person is struggling with so it's a big part of them and their experience. Edit; I'm also not saying this movie was good, I thought the first and second were pretty dumb.

Im sorry im just confused did the eating disorder develop because they were being repeatedly asked hows the weather up there? Probably not, yes i know people can have body dismorphia with any body type but the examples of bullying and struggles they showed in this movie and more so the first one are just so stupid and rlly don't happen that often so when you compare it to bullying for being over weight or poor its just distasteful

@@jadetorres4859 the eating disorder developed from a long time of being called skinny and made fun of for it. I'm a therapist studying eating disorders. There's a lot of connections in research with "naturally skinny girls" and eating disorders relating to the constant discussion of their body and ideation of working towards perfection. I'm not saying it comparable to obesity and the bullying relating to this. I'm saying it doesn't need to be compared in the sense of this competition that comes from people comparing trauma. i feel like the reason this movie was much more palatable than the first is bc, like you said, this movie deals with a very real thing like intrusive thoughts or imposter syndrome, while the first movie tried making Being Tall something you could be oppressed/discriminated against. much like how you mentioned this movie unfairly comparing judi's talleness to the love interest's former body weight, basically it's like "judi wouldn't be rejected from a job hiring for being tall, but an employer would /definitely find A reason/ to not hire someone simply bc that person is overweight (despite matching all job requisites and perhaps even more)" so it was good that this movie actually had judi dealing with something more internally caused than the unrealistic externally caused like the previous movie tried to make

the fact that jodie acknowledged blocking the movie theatre screen and victimized herself when she was evidently being inconsiderate to the other movie-goers in the first place...

Ngl being discriminated for your height IS a real thing, and this might sound weird to most ppl but ive always been really short (like, I'm 19 and im less than 1,50 m tall) and all my life ive experienced bullying, discrimination, humiliation, uncomfortable comments, being treated/seen like a child as a humiliation tool etc about my height (yes, even if im a girl and its more 'socially acceptable' for a girl to be short) so based on my personal experience i consider ppl negatively commenting on height, very much like commenting on weight, body shaming.

Sadly, this movie is a huge improvement over the first one. Don't get me wrong, it's still unecessary. No one asked for a sequel. 😂

as a tall girl (5'10), the only thing I have struggled with is just feeling awkward around other shorter people (especially in middle school when I was the only person). I felt like I couldn't hear the conversation and was cut off when everyone was grouped in a circle, and I always hunched my shoulders to make myself smaller. I was so jealous of the cute short girls. I still feel uncomfortable talking to people who are much older than me (and in positions of power like a doctor, teacher, driving instructor, etc.) that I tower over. I think that's just learning to feel comfortable with my height and it was never something I was bullied about. Otherwise I feel like being tall is an advantage because it means I am automatically taken more seriously. Also, I can attest that there were taller girls than me in highschool, among many taller boys. Idk if other tall girls have experienced similar things

The reason this movie is so funny (in a bad way) is exactly because being tall doesn't make you discriminated against lmao. Yeah, you might be made fun of or whatever, but she acts like it's the same as racism/ abelism, etc. Like Trin said, being tall and skinny is literally the beauty standard in society. Also side note I'm 175cm (5'9 I think) and wish I was taller lol. I love being tall.

I'm 5'8 myself and I consider myself short, so this movie hits me on a personal level. I've fallen for girls taller than me, some of 'em cheerleaders. But I'm just too shy to admit my feelings for them. Netflix struck gold on this one and Trin...thanks for breaking this down and giving guys like me hope to break out of the friendzone with girls they like.

When I watched tall girl 1 I was sure Dunkleman and Stig would be together and Jodie and Kimmy would be together because Kimmy had no place to be this obsessed with Jodie. I was so surprised it was just the same hetero bulshit again.
