I loved the movie just cause it was wattpad coded HOWEVER there are so many wattpad stories that aren’t based on celebrities that could be made. Not just one but two stories that were once Harry styles fan fiction that ended up being made into movies is wild.

i anticipated that patrick was gonna use the serve tell as a message to art about what happened too and was gagged still when it happened. i had mixed feelings immediately i was like is this some nasty type of mind fucking? or is this him trying to be honest and open art’s eyes? yep he just loved art too much and had to show it to art in a context he would HAVE to listen to. i really do think that tashi’s quote about tennis being a relationship is so important. she’s brutal, aggressive, reckless, and fiery in her tennis playing and that carries into her connections to both boys cuz that’s how she loves. the boys’ relationships were towards each other as much as it was to tennis but i think their connection was WHY they could love tennis so much. that’s why patrick stops being good, that’s why art slowly stops wanting to play, it’s no longer alongside their best friend. yet after this moment, this strange honest intimacy on the court they always used to love each other on… the connection to tennis gets snapped back into place for them both. and that’s why tashi is so fucking delighted in the end. she finally saw some good tennis from them bc the court showed their relationship being healed and worked out right there in the moment and THAT mended their relationship to tennis.

okay i have to disagree on a couple things: 1. art didn’t just love tashi for her present self/the her that couldn’t play tennis. he loved her in both phases, which is why he WAS being a shit stirrer even tho i don’t think him doing petty meddling makes him the villain. but ur right patrick loved tashi the tennis player the most of her forms but he loved art the most in general. i think him being with tashi after the big fight at stanford was bc him and art had stopped talking and access to her was the closest access he had to him. 2. i think tashi did love art, even if she loved tennis more. he was the second spot on her love list. someone tweeted “tashi loved art as much as she could love something besides tennis” and i agree. if she simply wanted to train someone like you said, she easily could’ve just told patrick that night, “if you win, then yes i’ll train you instead.” but no. she asked patrick to LOSE so that she can keep her word, art, AND tennis at the same time. she didn’t REALLY want to be forced to choose between art and tennis yet. her and patrick have a very primal sort of connection i think they have such enormous egos and monstrous senses of pride they see a reflection of themselves in each other. but all characters in this movie are selfish in one way or another and betray each other too i think. no one’s innocent and they all are guilty of fucking up their own relationships amongst each other.

The way he behaves, showing up at her place of work unsolicited, making grand gestures in front of an audience to impress her, would be so inexcusable if he was a normal person and not attractive and famous. I'm trying to figure out how this is supposed to be a mature story for adults about an adult woman when this guy seems like a personality-less cardboard box whose only selling point is that 13-year-old girls find him desirable. Doesn't really resonate with me as an older woman. You should know by 40 how meaningless superficial things are and I'd rather see a story where we understand deeply why these two people like each other because of the interactions they have. But that's much harder to write. Instead, anything here that actually seems like a deep exploration of feelings has everything to do with building HER characterization and he's literally just there, being a pretty cardboard box, and I guess we're supposed to like him because he's the saint that did the charitable service of smashing an older woman. This is just a teenager's wish-fulfillment fanfiction written by a woman who never grew up and thought she wrote a masterpiece.

before i finish your video i just wanna confess i’ve seen this film 3x already, it’s so cute and comforting and literally would NOT have worked to the extent it did without the leads. but i rlly wish i didn’t learn the context of the source material and all the things they had to either rewrite or completely scrap to make this movie less yucky. with that being said, a LOT of the forced feminism dialogue is what did make me side eye the movie even while i was enjoying it. when izzy said, “it’s cuz you’re a woman and you’re older than him,” i was like… well, yes! i think they’re not wrong about how women get scrutinized even more for being the older person, but this film isn’t from the 2000s. our generation thinks older men in her position ARE disgusting, so that was a given no matter the gender. those few lines from hayes and izzy and her friend tracy were the only ones that took me out of the film and made me crinkle my nose. but i WAS a huge 1d fan who read and wrote a lot of harry fanfic LMAO so i loved the music, the magic corniness of boy bands, nicholas’ blatant harry voice/mannerisms. i had a huge blast but god i have to ignore the questionable inspiration and white feminism being shoved down my throat towards the middle to ending of the film

and just to be clear, ik that the writer isn’t a white woman but i said what i said. literally they’re pushing this “MEN do it so WHY CANT AN EMPOWERED WOMAN LIKE ME?” message and it’s just… ugh. i think him being 24 was such a good revision. still kinda weird but at least he’s in his mid twenties rather than just being fresh off his teens like in the book so if they had kept him as 20 the entire movie would have been ruined. i’m 24 myself and i admit i’ve talked to an older guy close to anne’s age like once but nah it’s too weird i don’t think anyone over 10 years older than me has any business being near me intimately lmao

I kinda love this movie cause you can get so many different takes after watching. It really is codependency the movie. I feel like Art’s strength is discipline but lacks the drive, Patrick has raw talent but lacks discipline.Tashi kind of had all 3 but loss her talent and ability to apply her discipline but still has so much Drive. So what they each lack the other has. I feel like they all have a primary love Tashi’s first and only love to me is Tennis. I mean the line that she says about stabbing a child or an old lady to recover and play again. She wants it and wants it bad. Arts love is Tashi ( not to say he doesn’t love Patrick that’s another matter). But to me it’s not like he just loves her. He loves her drive, the thing he lacks. So like being with her is like outsourcing the thing he lacks. Like when they are on the beach he talks about her scream and is kind of in awe of like how bad she wants it. Patrick I feel is kind of a mix of all three but Art kind of the thing on which it all spins. Like everything he loves is kind of tied to him, tennis, Tashi etc. like a very telling thing when he comes to visit Stanford and he jokingly says that Art wanting Tashi just makes it hotter for him. Also it kind of read when he and Tashi were hooking up and they were talking about Art he was getting more turned on 🫣. I feel like Art gives him direction, It’s like they are all not like full humans without each other. I have so many other thoughts but obviously this is too long already 😅

Also I feel like Art also get joy from being with Patrick. That is what he kinda lacks with Tashi, like he traded the drive for joy he had when he played with Patrick. Also these all apply to both the connections and tennis cause it’s all the same to them 😅

My heart was beating so fast in that last game!!!! Because I KNEW Patrick was going to " serve the ball in the center of the racket" which was what Art said to him 13 YEARS AGO... Art said " dude if u slept with her serve me the ball in the center" Patrick wanted Art to win.. but Patrick wanted to give Art motivation...and Patrick being a sick guy decided to tell him he just slept with his wife ... AND ART BELIEVES IT ! and Art played the best game and beat Patrick...and Patrick just went in and hugged him!!!

What is sort of funny is that in the end non of them really got what the loved/wanted. Tashi loved to play tennis and couldn't do so due to her injury. Patrick loved tennis, Tashi and maybe Art and in the end he didn't have Tashi nor Art and he also didn't flourish in tennis. And even though Art married Tashi and they had a daughter, Tasha's love towards him is bound to him playing tennis and not to him as a person

But this was not a Harry Styles fanfic? Correct me if I’m wrong this movie was based on a book where Harry or one direction was nowhere near mentioned in the plot. Like this wasn’t Wattpad adaptation lol. To me this movies boy band actually feels more like Kpop band or a 90s boy band. Maybe author got some ideas for Hayes from 1D fanfic but overall no? Just cause his British, sings and had tattoos it’s Harry?

contrary to popular belief, the book is not based on Harry Styles, the author of the book said she based Hayes on several different people. Also Solene and Hayes relationship was alot more toxic and volatile and predatory and was driven more by lust in the book, it's obvious they couldn't make their relationship work, so the ending in the book was more realistic for their relationship in the book. BUT in the movie their relationship is less toxic and more organic and grounded and abit more wholesome and mature in the sense that Hayes was older and they had more healthier interactions & conversations with each other in the movie. I think their relationship in the movie is more convincing and believable, I can believe that they actually do love each other and can make their relationship work in the long run, so their reunion 5 years later is believable to me. And Anne and Nicholas have great chemistry together, they really sell the lovestory very well. In reality there are couples with big age gaps who are able to make their relationships work.
