Welcome back to Engine Stories, a series that will be going over the history of our well loved and famous little engines, written and narrated by Daniel Long.
In this episode we take a look at two of the newest and lesser known engines on the Railway - Trecwn and St. Cadfan, the Baguley Drewry Diesels!

Can’t wait! Don’t really hear about the Talyllyn diesels after Midlander, so it’s great to see you spotlighting the lesser known engines on the railway!

Kind of a shame that number 10 had to be sold, from what I can remember. I suppose if the railway decides to have a new number 10 (or just a newly built engine entirely), they could always give it the name that Dolgoch was temporarily renamed to; Pretoria.

Its a shame that Merseysider and Bryn Eglwys are no longer on the Talyllyn: the Talyllyn Railway could have had an equal number of 6 Steam Engines and 6 Diesel Engines each.

They are also numbered in the order they are because №11 was first off the lorry but was then at the far end of the siding, meaning that №12 was the easiest to get at when it came to removal for re-gauging. Extra fun fact, the plates saying which number is which are modelled on those fitted to №5 and №8 in the early days of preservation - including the very circular O in №. The nameplates on both locos are also a unique shape for the Talyllyn, reflecting the makers plate above the radiator grille.

These make me wonder... If Christopher Awdry had been able to continue writing the Railway Series, would we have seen a counterpart for them on the Skarloey Railway?

There are/were Four Diesels after Alf on the Talyllyn Railway, I would like to see counterparts to them.

Trecwn and St.Cadfan are cool. They are modern boxy diesels on a welsh narrow gauge railway and they are 99hp. Cool.

Learning about those two diesels in this video made me surprised that no one has incorporated that same basis in their Thomas series, then Rusty and Fred wouldn't be the only diesels on the Skarloey Railway.

If the railway series had continued then maybe we would have gotten to see the skarloey railway equivalence of trecwn and st. Cadfan

A little tip for anyone confused by the yellow paintjobs (like I was!), Trecwn was the one with the blue skirts and St Cadfan was the one with the black skirts
