You are truly the best teacher. I've read so many instructions on how to make a pocket pillow that said that they were for beginners. Should I use a muslin underneath the batting if I’m using regular batting as I’m concerned about cotton getting in the bottom area from the batting

I got my 4 made for my grandchildren for Christmas, but if you could tell me what yardage is needed it would be helpful. I have cut some wrong and had to improvise. I know this is silly sorry but thank you.

Hi Carol, you should only need a half a yard plus a second fabric for the pocket and handle. But if you cut a piece short just add to the bottom and it can get hidden behind the front pocket…..I had to do this once 🫣.

Does it matter much if the back panels are placed horizontal or vertical?

Personally I would do them horizontally that way it is less bulk when sewing over the handle. Happy sewing Charlene 🧵💝

Great job ! I want to ask you...after you put the pillow form in the pillow, does the envelope backing over lap enough so those two pc’s don’t separate so you see the pillow form ? I only ask because I’ve made these but the backing was 1pc 18x12 & 1 pc 18x9. And I did 1/4 & then another 1/4” for those 2 edges where you did 1/2 & 1/2. I am only using a 16x16 pillow form.

Hi Roxanne, Yes! it overlaps. But I suppose if you used a really large pillow it could struggle. If you don't want to risk it you could always add a zipper instead following this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n71nfMpiut6lY40.html It's actually pretty easy to do! Or you could add some buttons.

If I want to do 16 x 16 what measurements for fabric?

Hi Jeannie, I cut 19" by 19" fabric backing for an 18" by 18" insert using a 1/2" seam allowance. So you would just go down a few inches and do a 17" by 17" cut.

There are no stupid questions😉. My boys keep them on their bed and keep the book they are reading in it. My nephews put their stuffies in it and carry the pillow wherever they want to sit in the house. Think of it as a “tote bag” for your book that comes with a pillow so you can get comfortable wherever you choose to read.
