hani osman she knew deep down after a certain point that she was hallucinating him and that she needed to be grounded in reality (without him there) so she could focus on survival and also to find a bit of peace. Also, maybe to let his spirit go. Just watched it for the second time, so heartbreaking.

Loved this movie. It’s really sad but I got one thing from it. Two actually. Thank God everyday you see yourself and your loved one alive. It’s not easy losing a loved for over 37 years. I also learnt knowledge on danger response wherever you go, strength, resilience, courage, determination. Tami has taught me to never give up no matter what. To keep fighting all the way through. Thank you Tami, and thank you Richard, my heart goes out to both of you❤️

*May 7th of 2021 I finally watched the movie that I been wanting to watch for the past two years but just never got to it..I’m almost 18 and the story of this story inspired me so much of strength and bravery ....this movie is truly magical but comes with a lot of pain...well done with the movie truly a master peace and your life story is truly amazing* 💯

Tami , wow , what a story . I loved the movie but it was hard to watch it times . We never heard about the couple you two were sailing for . Anyway you could share that missing link . I'm sure they were decimated to hear the news of what happened , especially , Richard dying . Your survival was incrediable Glad your story was told . A lesson for many . The SEA is the great leveller. I was in a storm off North Cape New Zealand for 10 days heading for Fiji, during which time I thought I was going to die. Fortunately there were 4 of us to divide watches between so we were able to get some sleep. ocasionally and keep the boat under control.for the most part.

Het is duidelijk dat Tami een beschermengel had. Het was haar tijd nog niet. Dat ze überhaupt de orkaan overleefde is al een wonder op zich. Dat ze uit een coma van 27 uur kwam des te opmerkelijker. Dat iemand zo lang bewusteloos is en eruit ontwaakt zonder medische zorg is een Godswonder in mijn ogen. Dat ze er heel slecht aan toe was met haar hoofdwond wordt ook duidelijk in haar boek. Ze was gedesoriënteerd, wist niet waar ze was en wat ze op die boot deed. Opmerkelijk is dat ze om Ray begon te roepen en daarna besefte dat dat de naam van de orkaan was en niet van haar vriend. Ook het niet willen en kunnen inzien dat haar geliefde overboord was geslagen, terwijl ze het uiteinde van de reddingslijn met de gebroken haak in handen had toen ze die uit het water trok. Het vreemde was dat ik het ook niet kon geloven dat hij zomaar verdwenen was en ik met haar “meezocht”. Hij zou vast wel ergens onder de puinhoop liggen dacht ik. Hoop doet leven, ook valse hoop. De boot is een ravage, de mast is gebroken maar toch is de romp intact gebleven. Het heeft water gemaakt tijdens zijn salto of salto’s terwijl ze bewusteloos was. Het Parool spreekt vol ongeloof en smalend over het dichtplakken van gaten in de romp met ductape. Haha Nederlands nuchterheid. In het boek komt dat er niet in voor, de regisseur wilde het dramatischer laten lijken, denk ik. Haar geluk was dat ze vast lag onder een berg puin, toch vrij kon ademen en niet meer rondgeslingerd kon worden. Haar koele optreden en ervaring houdt haar in leven. Van de nood een deugd maken. Alle ballast en onbruikbare dingen overboord gooien. En de boom in het opgehoopte gat in het dek te maken als mast met een zeil. Daar moet je wel degelijk over de juiste kennis beschikken.. Ze vind de ongeschonden sextant in zijn kistje, haar tweede levensreddend middel om de koers te bepalen. De accu die uit zijn bescherming was losgeraakt en als een godswonder weer naar boven draaide zodat ze geen brandwonden op liep tijdens haar coma. Mag zeker als een derde Godswonder gezien worden. Ze heeft weinig water dat bijna op raakt en als een wonder vind ze een tank met water. De zelfgemaakte mast en zeil, het water en voedsel, de sextant, haar kennis en uithoudingsvermogen houden haar in leven en weet ze letterlijk en figuurlijk haar koers te bepalen. Ze schrijft dat de verbeelding haar steeds meer in de greep had. Ze zag spoken en schrok van het minste en geringste geluid. Op de rand van waanzin. Alleen je gedachte als afleiding, en juist dat kan je gek maken. Daarom vind ik dit zo bijzonder, wat een wilskracht moet je hebben om jezelf keer op keer ter orde te moeten roepen. En dat deed ze ook, D.m.v. De Stem. Psychiaters zijn huiverig voor stemmen en staan gelijk klaar met medicijnen. Maar je innerlijke stem kan juist levensreddend zijn.

Yes absolutely, they look very alike. Both are such strong women. One got out of an abusive childhood, abusive relationship, and even after having her life ripped away from her she went on. The other survived for 41 days all alone in the sea, losing her fiance, yet keeping her sanity. Remarkable.

It’s crazy how with only six months of sailing experience, she managed to land her boat on a postage stamp in roughly a 10,000 square mile area with a storm job and a sextant. Some of the most experienced seasoned captains don’t even fully understand sextants.

i wouldn’t think so if she believed he was there since she was having auditory hallucinations or his spirit was guiding her. holding on to that probably made her feel very close to him. i think the reality/grief probably didn’t really set in until she made it to Hawaii. & keeping my sanity can mean so many things for her like “Keeping my sanity” bc my fiancé died, i’m here alone, having hallucinations, limited food, & unsure of when or if i’ll be rescued. at least that’s what I got from it when she said that. idk i always try to give ppl the benefit of the doubt.

They started out the trip together then during the hurricane, Richard made her get into the boat to stay safe while he stayed up on top, and he during that time frame of the hurricane and her being in the boat and him being on top, he was ripped away and lost at sea. I hope that helped! :)

Jesus Christ! The shit happened in the 1980s The movie didn't come out until 2018. It's called healing. She has healed. She is allowed to smile and laugh again without the likes of you and others fucking passing judgment on her. Besides that, she only laughed because it was rather a stupid question asking her what the most difficult part for her was. And like she said, "everyday" I see you come from a group of stupid people.

Why is she laughing and acting completely emotion less while talking about an event that should have been completely traumatic ? How do you get knocked out for 27 hours then wake up just fine and not have drowned ? I've had near death experiences and I can't talk about them as non chalantly as she is . She's laughing way too much for my tastes. She's reminding me of Amanda Eller. That's not a compliment.

Sarah Rose people heal and move on, she was 24 when this happened so many years have passed and you can’t live a life of misery because of a traumatic event, that would be a very sad life indeed although I’m sure when she goes home and is alone the memories and emotions come back to her

@@louh2893 I have to disagree. I went back and watched this Interview again. This woman is very clearly doing duping delight while talking about how " scary " the 50 ft waves were. This woman shows clear body language signs of lying during much of this Interview. I have no idea what really happened to her years ago, but body language analysis says she is lying about large portions of her story.

So much time has passed since this incident and she has retold the story hundreds of times. Do you expect her to break down frantically every time she recites her tale? My mother passed away in my arms 25 years ago. I can tell people about it without crying. I even smile when I talk about her. That was traumatic but time has healed. Stop being so accusatory.
