I had travelled in cinema field for few years from my point of view sucess of a movie entirely depends upon the script not on mass heros, for example in tamil cinema "bigil" and "kaithi" , both movie released simulaneously but audience loved to watch kaithi movie instead of bigil because of it's good script. Our previous generation loved to watch mass heros that's why they allowed them to enter in politics and we got a stupid leaders but today's generation is entirely different they give importance to the script that's why most of the heros are quiting cinema industry and it is good because cinema is a very powerful medium with the help of this medium we can convey many good things to audience instead of showing mass scenes, brutual murders, women abusing and creating foundation for politics.

typical mass movies dont have the same appeal after OTT and exposure to world cimena. mass movies are transforming (thanks to directors like lokesh kanagaraj, nelson)to a place where heros dont matter as much (who would have thought a kamal starer would be the biggest mass movie of the year). but that doesnt mean mass movies will be gone, and even if that is the case, the industry will still survive. just look at malayalam industry, its purely based on content. content will be the king going forward.

Its actually other way. Now, the crowd going to movies because of mass heros are getting lesser and lesser. And only movies with good scripts work well in box office. You can see that happening in the last two years. If movie has star appeal it can work regionally. But if it has a stellar story it can go worldwide. Malayalam movies getting its due recognition because of three reasons 1. I said before 2. Social media 3. Theyre inclusive in film making. Prithviraj, dulqar and fahad are not any mass heros like vijay , ajith, rajini . Infact way lesser than what suriya or kamal can do.
