If you follow the Qur'an and Sunnah (teachings of the prophet Mohammad peace be upon him) is enough to lead and live your life successful in this world and the hereafter. When you say people are brainwashed, What benefits are they getting? The media is playing a great part in brainwashing the people in social media creating people against islam, thinking that people who follow Islam are terrorists. I don't agree in naming only a specific religious group with terrorism I'll elaborate it why.. I belive that other religious group would do the same if it had the means as you said Hinduism is not a world wide phenomenon and Christianity even though it is spread world wide it is not restrictive comparatively and the reason for these religious groups being this way is because at some point of time it has undergone very minute reforms. At the same time Islam outright kicks out the thought of reform and free will. It is completely closed and very restrictive comparatively. They can be easily manipulated into immoral ways if you say it's for your religion. I feel somehow they are also victims. I feel baming them for being in a cult will not help and they will feel threatened because people tend to hold religion is a special place. Only rational thought and scientific education can help them. The reform should come within. Another thing I would like to point out is both Christianity and Islam is monotheistic religion. I feel that they will always feel theretened when the other religious group grows . So they fight with whatever means they have. For eg: when a country's leaders are mostly Christian to attan rights or power the minority always struggles. Instead of channeling those ideas through democratic means which is a long and slow process they are offered the path of terrorism. My point is branding them won't help. At the same time most of the religion at some some point to survive undergoes very minor reforms. Like bringing shivites,vishnavites under the umbrella of Hinduism. Also like accepting 25th dec as birthday of Christ. In similar way Islam is known for its unwillingness to adapt to modern practices. I also believe that common people jumping into the narrative of branding specific religious group will add fuel to their propoganda machinery of those in power, and motivate terrorist organisations for recruitment showing us common people as enemys.
