Tamiya's Douglas A-1H Skyraider in 1/48 scale is a nice solid kit which cries for weathering. I built it out of the box, added some rivets and focused on the paint and weathering process.
Unfortunately, I have hardly any material from the construction and can therefore only present the final result.

Very nice build. I'm looking at buying this kit and Tamiya's 1/48 Thunderbolt. I tried building model aircraft in small 1/72 scale, but I wasn't satisfied doing such tiny kits. So for my second foray into model planes, I'm looking to go up a size to 1/48, or maybe even 1/32 if finances allow. I don't have an airbrush, as I prefer to do all my painting by hand.

Thanks for your comment. Both Tamiya kits build well and I had no problems. I had so much fun with it that I bought the Skyraider USAF version to try again. I can only recommend using an airbrush, maybe spray cans. The results are worth it.

@@ScalerDan I have been looking at spray paint specifically made for model kits, as I don't know the first thing about airbrushing. They do also make special masking tape just for models too.
