The Tamiya Grasshopper 2 takes on its older iconic sibling .... The Grasshopper in a hopper buggy battle!
Three stages each with three laps on ad hoc stages -The fastest overall time over the three stages .....wins!
For anyone who cares i’ve added a league table to keep track of results .
Points awarded thus :
1st place - 9pts
2nd place - 4pts
3rd place - 1pt ( if applicable)
Please note - These races are by no means definitive.
Both are running in Tamiya Torque Tuned motors

2-0 to the Grasshopper over the Grasshopper 2 on the rolls and landing back on your wheels!😆👍 Fun vid and l think the oil shocks didn't help the Grasshopper 2 that much its the tyres that made the difference! Iol just my opinion of course! Great to see the Grasshopper and G2 go head to head Dom! Cheers James.

thanks buddy. yes those oil shocks don’t seem to help much . but like you said … rear spikes did . maybe it’s time to hop up the hoppers rear tires ?🤔 one thing for sure , it’s as much a challenge getting them round the courses as getting good times 😂 thanks for watching mate 😊👍

These are great entertainment, Dom, I love watching them! I like how you let your creativity flow for the tracks, also easier than trying to replicate the same track layout each time. GHII is just a lot more advanced (still primitive in modern standards), so of course it beat the older version.

Very entertaining as always mate! I've always found the hopper family to be very light, scatty, and erratic to drive on uneven/loose surfaces.... which in turn makes them a fun drive! The basic design /engineering and lack of damping really starts to become obvious, you drove well there! Quite surprised that there were obvious time differences between the two..... the OG still wins on looks department in my mind though! Loving the out takes at the end fella. 👍 👍 👍

yeah the OG is a fantastic looking rc. apparently it’s design was influenced by an actual grasshopper? they handle poor but are so much fun and look great. i really like them thanks for watching mate👍

Nice one Dom, a very interesting little head to head! I did think it would be closer than it was, but the rear grip of the OG seemed to have gone on holiday! Other than that they both looked to hop in equal amounts! Love the bloopers, keeping it real matey! 🤗👌👍

14 May 2024 is the 40th anniversary of The Grasshopper. I wonder if Tamiya will mark this occasion with a special edition? It is amazing to think that after all this time, if you want a starter hobby-grade kit, it is still a popular choice. It is also a bit sad that after 40 years of RC development, Tamiya hasn't given us a new entry-level kit that new generations of future RC enthusiasts can build on a budget and experience fun and slightly improved performance.

Interesting comparison. And one of the rare times Tamiya really improved a car on the second version. Althpught I have to says the original looks mor smopther on the run.

You and those one off clean barrel rolls 👍😂. The one where the OG hits the cone in the fails. 👌🤣. I think the OG grasshopper left a lot on the table due to its tires. TT motor did add some nice speed but those tires were fighting for its life to grip. 👍

Nice run with them Dom! Both of them can be a bit jumpy and twitchy but the GH2 is just a bit easier to keep in check... usually! I enjoyed watching them and great job with the video!

it’s a more up to date gearbox and not ridgid like the OG but not much different tbh 😊👍
