Watch how I break-in Hyper-Dash motors. Normal speed so you can follow along and see all the details. Conservative break-in without Voodoo oil. The app I'm using is Giri on an iPhone.

you can also try shining light on the white thing that holds the brushes, so you can see if the brushes are close enough on the commutator. if the carbon brushes looks almost like a v ( not exactly V but looks like its a V ) thats great. dying motors tends to go fast like stupid fast then the speed slowly fades away

Great video, and warnings :), I am new and have seen many people soaking motor in Lighter Fluid before break in, do you do that as well to get 'sticky' stuff out of motor?
@claredin
@claredin Жыл бұрын
I have heard of people using lighter fluid to clean motors, but I personally don't. Carb cleaner or electronics cleaner is a lot less harsh. Some say that electronics cleaner leaves a thin greasy film on parts, but that would be washed away during the water tune. The trick is to use the least harshest chemicals to do the job, so just follow the method and you'll be good :)

how is this possible? my brand new hyperdash motor starts at around 26k. after my break-in routine, i only get 28k at most. on mach dash i get 28k stock and 33k at most. what am i missing? i really want to achieve such high RPMs as well!
@claredin
@claredin 4 ай бұрын
Don't worry so much about numbers. A fast motor doesn't mean a thing if a car can't stay on a track :) Some of my Hyper-Dash cars give me 34 km/hr on the Tamiya speed checker, but I wouldn't run them on batteries that give more than 31 km/hr speed.

Try measuring rpm using batteries. Im not sure but reading on a consistent power supply and reading on the batteries are not the same on my motors. For example i just done breaking in 2 torque tuned 2 pros (2 different methods,trying to experiment what method is more effective for a newbie like me.) on 3v power supply , 1 motor reads 19k rpm and the other reads 22k rpm. But in full charged batteries with 1.54v reading 1 reads 18.5k and the other reads 20k-21k rpm. So im thinking that rpm varries on what power suppky we are using? (consistent power supply and batteries) not realky sure but thats juat my observation. Anyway nice vid and great motor you have!
@claredin
@claredin 10 ай бұрын
Yes, it sure does! However, if you use the same power source to check your RPMs on all your motors, that reduces the randomness variable. Batteries have a lot more variability than consistent power sources. Even the same exact alkaline or rechargeable batteries will yield slightly different results evetry time.

Great video. Can I ask, I have Voodoo oil, for that one do I need to apply oil as frequently as u mentioned or one to two times is enough already?
@claredin
@claredin 2 ай бұрын
You can never use too much oil is my philosophy. You can basically tap/shake the excess oil out of the motor to get rid of the debris inside. You don't need to be heavy handed with the drops. Just a little drop or two each time you use it, enough to lubricate the insides and loosen the debris. (In other words, don't flood the motor with oil as I've seen others do)

I've always wondered, the voltage is displayed but what is the current output going into motor?
@claredin
@claredin 10 ай бұрын
It's likely greater than two AA batteries, but not by much. I like to think of the G-Force as giving you the very top end of what a set of alkaline or rechargeable batteries can give you. Alkalines can give you 1.63V at the top end while rechargeables can give you 1.55V, but volts is not the entire story. Some batteries output a more consistent level of power than others, so a 1.55V Neo Champ will outlast a 1.63V Rayovac alkaline in a long race. Some batteries give a burst of speed at the beginning or a test run while others gradually increase their power output after 10 to 15 seconds.

@claredin
@claredin Жыл бұрын
@@EMSAYMADA Contact cleaner, or electronics cleaner, is used to clean electronic parts. It's basically good for de-greasing metal parts. Some people don't like using it because it leaves a thin layer of oil on the parts, but I've never had issues with it. I think it's fine for cleaning metal parts. You just have to use it sparingly, not drowning the metal parts but using as little as possible to get the part cleaned. You can use it on rollers to get them to spin better, but use very little.

can I apply this break in method to all tamiya motors?
@claredin
@claredin 7 ай бұрын
It's a safer method than the water break-in, so the answer is yes, but your mileage may vary due to the variances in quality of all manufactered products. Motors (or devices with moving parts), even if they are the same type and come from the same factory and made at the same time as motors around it, are never the same. I had one HD motor last for a few weeks while another died in 3 days. One thing to note is break-ins MAY reduce the lifespan of your motors by a lot because you're taxing your motors from the very beginning.

You often talk about a cleaner for contacts that leave an oily patina on the metal parts, but the oil you use is oily! Sorry for my observation, but I don't understand what difference there is between oily patina of product for electrical contacts or oily patina that leaves the oil of the singer ...
@claredin
@claredin 6 ай бұрын
That's a great observation! Different oils will have different viscosities, so some are going to be thicker than others. You want to use products that have thin oils in them, such as sewing machine oils to lubricate your motor parts. The electrical contact cleaners and non-sewing machine oils are thicker oils so if you use that in your motors, they will not run as fast and efficiently as if you use thin oils.
