Tamiya's Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in 1/48 scale is a good solid kit with the typical fit quality. I learned a lot building this model out of the box, but I would change some things next time.
The metal finish is a little too mat. Next time I would also paint the invasion stripes and not use the decals. Overall I had much fun building it and I hope you will like the video too.

You should rebuild this kit with Eduard's wonderful photo etch and 3d printed decals. Adds a ton of sorely missing detail

The Tamiya P-47's are great kits and a few additional details are always good. I would also use other metal colors and not a matt clear coat. The next attempt will probably be the new MINIART Thunderbolt, which I'm really looking forward to. Regards ScalerDan

@@kikomaluto Thank you for your question. It depends on the product used. On my P-51 Mustang I used AK Gauzy Agent Shine Enhancer as a final sealant. That would be my recommendation for metallic surfaces. You get a nice shine and retain the metal effect. For other surfaces I usually use Mr Hobby clear varnish and mix matt with semi gloss or gloss. You can change the final result by diluting the clear coat, but it requires some practice. A thick, gloss layer usually looks unnatural. Regards ScalerDan

@@kikomalutoThank you for the kind words. The 'AK Gauzy Agent Shine Enhancer' is a type of clear varnish and is applied as the final sealing layer. So do not use any additional clear varnish. The product description states that it is specially made for a shiny effect. You can also dip canopies in it. Regards ScalerDan

Great work! Looks real good. I like that you take time to showcase the final model. I've seen other modelers showcase the final model for like 20 seconds.

Thanks for your kind words. I try to present the final model as detailed as possible. Maybe some more close-ups in upcoming builds...

Thank you for your comment. It's one of my earlier works, so I paid a little less attention to the details. The finish is also a bit too matte. I hope you can see an improvement in my newer videos. Regards ScalerDan

WOW! great job on the painting and weathering. May I ask what colors you used on the body of the plane. I see you vallejo white aluminium on a panel. I am just getting into Vallejo paints.

Thank you for watching and commenting. I mainly used Vallejo Aluminium for the fuselage and wings and painted individual panels with Dark Aluminium and White Aluminium to create some variation. If you want to stick with acrylic paints, the Vallejo Metal Colors are very good. For even more of a metal effect, I would recommend AK Xtreme Metal. Regards ScalerDan

What did you use to get those thick decals to settle nicely in the panel lines? Turned out super cool.

Thanks for your comment. I used Micro Sol in thin layers...again and again and again. Between each layer wait until it is dry and gently press with a cotton swab...but you need patience and always let it dry horizontally. Regards ScalerDan
