Tamiya Saint Dragon Build
I decided the other dragons were in need of a friend and since this was a “limited” edition of the kit I went ahead and picked it up. I love how these car drive and getting this one just seemed to make sense! This is just the build video and there will be a run coming up where it will get compared to the Fire Dragon due to the difference in shock oil I built them with.
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Great video as always 👍 I'm a big fan of that chassis - my first 4WD Tamiya back in the day was a Terra Scorcher and most of my friends ran Thunder Shots or Thunder Dragons. Great buggies and reasonably priced too.

Thanks! I could have made it work by lengthening the wires and relocating it or making a mount for it. Afterwards I thought I could have just glued in a piece of styrene into the chassis next to the switch opening and double sided taped it to that. Since I had a Tamiya one to replace it I didn't put too much thought into it at the time. It is going to be a challenge in some kits like this to find a good spot without modifications to something. Now you’ve done it to me. I just built a Fire Dragon and after seeing all three of your “Dragons” together, now I want them. You are right that they are a nice chassis, my Fire Dragon just has the Tamiya silver can motor with a slightly larger pinion (the motor really gets hot!) I have ordered a Plasma Edge II, but have not received it yet. Just subscribed.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to be a bad influence, not really! Try a sport tuned motor in the dragon with the stock pinion. They are cheap and run pretty well. If you want spicier than that go with the GT Tuned. The stock ESC can run either. The sport tuned are great cheap upgrades from the stock silver can. they will also pep up the Plasma Edge too! There I go costing you more money... I would recommend it if it would not be worth it! I really love the GT Tuned motors but I do have to say I have not run one in the $WD yet but in everything else they run great. I am glad you are getting some cool kits and are out there having fun! Feel free to blame me for any new purchases... I do it with other channels all the time!! Looks great Addam. Interesting for me as I have a Terra Scorcher re-re to build which will be the first time I've had this chassis. That thing with the ESC switches is annoying isn't it because sticking it on with double sided tape never lasts. I usually try to cable tie it if possible. Using the Tamiya one like you have does solve the problem but I don't think that they have a lipo setting unless they have changed. Also brushless sets have the tiny switch with no attachment holes. Good tips mate. Best wishes 🙂
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Very true, I only run NIMH packs in my Tamiyas so I don't generally think about the lipo aspect for these. Also generally run them on brushed motors so don't utilize that part either. I don't like the stick down switch mounting as they do often fail after some use. At least the 1060 has a broad flat side that helps a little but it is still rather small to stay stuck forever. Thanks as always for the tips/info and thanks for stopping by and checking in!
@rogerchevelle8543
@rogerchevelle8543 2 жыл бұрын
Nice job on that kit. I have a hobbywing 1060 in my Lunchbox. I feel it has a little better throttle response then the Tamiya esc. I put a 17t Reedy Radon in it. But,I agree I just used the clip on the side of the esc case and wish it had longer leads.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I think the 1060 is technically a better esc. I have them in a couple cars and they work great. Just with this covered interior and deep switch pocket on the bottom of the chassis really limits your mounting options. Swapping it out was the easy road. I would have lengthened the wires if needed but since I had the TBLE02 on hand I figured why not! Thanks for stopping by and checking in!

Thanks for the great video. It is always interesting to see the Tamiya body designs, which are like no other. I enjoyed your explanation on the decals.I often struggle with the Tamiya decals. I have seen cars that I have built bounce like that when I've too much rebound in the shocks. You could try taking out a little oil.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The rebound is fine, with the springs off you can compress them and they will stay compressed. The oil I used is more than half the weight of the stock oil and this it is just too thin to slow the travel causing it to bounce. The fire dragon was built with the stock oil and works fine so think my decision to use the thin oil was a bad one. We'll see how it runs and probably swap it out for a thicker oil and see what happens. Thank you for the suggestion as I have done that in the past by building them with too much oil and being pressurized. Thanks for stopping by and checking in!

Great presentation Addam👏. Why made Tamiya this dot right in the middele of the window? Great tips, especially for attaching the stickers. Tamiya seems not to be sure where their ESC tain is heading. Some kits have their new own, some get the Hobbywing. Last one's better for motors under 25T. And as long many of us change the silver cans, the 1060 is the better choise. I turned to glue the switches with E 6000 outside on the chassis, if the length of the wires allow this. From these three models I personally like the Thunder most, but that's taste😉
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! E6000 is a great solution to mounting those switches in a more secure manner, that foam tape just isn't enough and over time it will fail. I am sure once they are able to they will go back to their old ones once the chip shortage is sorted out. the 1060 is a better esc and I would love for them to switch to it but use a switch that works in the stock locations as the old ones did. It is all a waiting game now to see what happens. They have their own part number on them so it may go that route. I think the common view on the looks of these is most people prefer either the thunder or fire dragons over the saint dragon but like you said it is all personal taste. I like them all just because they are all kind of quirky an odd looking anyways compared to the traditional buggy designs. Thanks as always for stopping by and checking in!
@ShenRC
@ShenRC 2 жыл бұрын
cool! they are neat buggies. The saint looks lifted up higher than the dragon to me? I think the shocks springs are overloaded and you need to take out some of the spacers and it will work better. Can't wait to see it go... The other two look cool I am not sure about the looks of the siant dragon though it is crazy looking that's for sure!!
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
I'll have to double check but I think the spacers were about the same. The body does set up a little higher but I may have crammed an extra spacer in there as well playing with it on the bench. I will even them out for sure if I did before running them. It is definitely the most out-there design of the three of them but I kind of enjoy the quirky, odd look of them now.
