These "simple" looking paint schemes are often times very difficult. Getting the masking perfect, waiting for colours to dry before applying the next colour, etc... It's not nearly as easy as it would seem. I think back to the Subaru Brat ABS body, where most of the painting is done by hand/brush and it's just all accents that you're painting (tail lamps, etc...) but it takes FOREVER! Great job pal, just make sure it's always driving at least 25 km/h and nobody will ever spot the imperfections! Haha!

It was certainly a challenge! Hats off to people who produce them perfectly. Like you said, as long as it’s moving, no one will notice.

That would give me nightmares fella!! It's easy to see why this paint job has a reputation..... bearing all this in mind I think it came out very well to be honest. I think my personal nemesis for painting is the 959, done 3 of them over the years..... and still can't get it to a standard that I am totally happy with! 👍 👍 👍

Thank you. Certainly a tough one I don’t want to do anytime soon. Surely Tamiya will re-release the 959 at some point, so might get to experience that in the future. Saw one for sale in the retro shop and it was £1000! Too pricey for me.

@@rctamiyaaddict4687 Definitely tough, and could possibly be the main reason that I don't own a sand scorcher yet..... what a lovely kit though! Possibly may see a re re 959 for Tamiyas 50th perhaps? What a pig of a paint job though- Two tone colour, masking out deviding lines on curve contours inside out! There's also lots of tucked up areas and crevices that you have to hand paint small details to,once again, on the inside. Where the two colours meet around the rounded front headlight lines has to be perfect, as with on the rear end..... but the join is tucked up inside the boot lip! Then there's the painting on of all the window trim by hand. Decals are a real challenge to..... getting the red and foil gold stripes to properly line up on the non flat lines of the body without bubbling is nearly impossible! Combine that with how thin and brittle the polycarbonate shell is and you have a job that is far from fun! 👍 👍 👍

Wow! That sounds like a mammoth job to do. FairPlay if you’ve pulled that off. Sand Scorcher should be a walk in the park.

@@rctamiyaaddict4687 They certainly ain't perfect mate, but they aren't too bad! The Celica GRB is a lot easier on that chassis. We have a garden photo shoot of the two 959's and the Celica in our back catalogue at Green Hawks RC. I would love to get the sand scorcher at some point, but am tempted to try and turn it into the Ford Ranger, as I already have 3 or 4 Beetles in the collection! 😂 👍 👍 👍

Still looks good even with a few imperfections. A lesson learned is a lesson earned, better luck next time. Still came out alright in the end.

Hey… what’s the RC Land Rover Defender you have on your shelving? Traxxas?

It’s a Tamiya CC02. There’s videos on my channel for a better look.
