Time for some Tamiya excellence! Let's try out the original Tamiya TT-02B Carbon Towers together with a set of fully adjustable turn-buckles for the Tamiya TT-02B 1/10 4WD RC Car Buggy: the Tamiya Neo Scorcher, Tamiya Plasma Edge II and Tamiya Dual Ridge. Uhh ... and let's add a cherry-on-the-top. Or four of them actually. Welcome to Episode 9 of the ongoing TT-02B project. Created especially for the real TT-02B enthusiast!

Notes to the upgrades:
So, why change the shock towers? Well, the stock and flexible soft plastic towers equals durability, so if you run your TT-02B hard, with a lot of crashes, my guess is that the plastic towers will last longer than the carbon upgrade. But while flex in the towers is good for durability and crashes it's not really good for stability and performance. And since this one will see a lot of speed tests on road it's really the perfect upgrade for this project. Well, and then there is the obvious benefit: Five different mounting options compared to one.
The downside of the carbon upgrade however, is that if you got a Dual Ridge body or a Neo Scorcher wing you will need to trim them. I suspect the Plasma Edge II body and wing is the only set that fits completely.
At the same time the package comes with turn-buckles for the front and rear (not the steering though) for easy camber setting. I must admit though, that the type with the ball ends is not my favorite. They have a tendency to pop off during landings or crashes. But again, since I have high hopes that this particular unit is not going to be involved in serious crashes, it fits this project.
What about the shocks? Sometimes, in these Tamiya projects, I am really divided between 'looks' versus 'performance'. For me, the looks, the visual side, is a very important aspect of my hobby. I am not a racer. So this time I opted for some Tamiya DF-03/DT-02 MS Shocks (the TRF upgrade for the DT-02 MS) that were mounted on a DT-03 I have. Maybe I will change them later. Or tune them in terms of length and oil. Don't get me wrong, the MS shocks are great, my favorites, but for this 'on road project', the harder and shorter stock ones would perhaps be a better choice (performance wise). I actually did buy and try out a new set of aluminum GPM Racing TT-02B shocks with a perfect hard set-up, but visually, they just looked odd with the other upgrades. Now these are on my DT-03, looking great with other GPM upgrades, but leaving it utterly useless with a much too hard set-up. It's literally like a brick. Well, as said, the visual side is very very important for me. This is all just a good bit of fun.
The TT-02B in the video was born as a Tamiya Dual Ridge XB (Ready To Run), item no. 57876 released in 2014. You can watch it bone-stock in previous episodes and find the full stock specifications in the description box of the previous episodes.

Hi Mikael - the buggy just gets better! Lovely Sunday morning viewing. I did leave comments earlier, but they were removed. So I have logged in on a different browser (I was using Chrome, now I'm on Edge). These comments seem to be working - what a pain in the proverbial! Pity our football teams will meet in the semi's and not the final :-/ At least I can cheer whoever wins the Semi match when they get to the final on Saturday...

Hi Mark! Yeah, really starting to look very different. The question is when to stop? Still need at least some turn buckles for the steering linkage. Uhh, what a pain with the comments. Thank you for going through it all. I do love to read your comments. He he, yeah, a final could have been fun. But if you manage to fend off the Northmen I will cheer for the English Gentlemen in the final 😍😌

The plastic parts are so wobbly. Waiting to get the carbon holders.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, really wobbly. Durability wise, for crashes etc., it can be a good thing though. Flexible plastic bends and bends back again where a carbon tower just shatters. But for performance, the non-wobbly carbon is best.

She's looking fantastic Mikael. But as you point out in your description for me I am happy to stick with the stock damper stays for durability for when I crash into the multitude of tress around our track lol. Those shocks do look the part and are really smooth but boy are they expensive over here in the UK. Great stuff as always my friend.

Thank you, Rob! Yes, I agree with you completely. Actually one of the reasons why I am collecting parts for my hopped up DT-03 and DT-02. Wanna use some other shocks for those so I do not have to worry each time I run them 😅😊 But for this one it is okay. I hope not to see any big crashes for a speed test car. Well, hoping is one thing, the future will show what happens 😊

Left front top links is the wrong way round, adjuster part needs to be near the shock tower as per instructions. Same on the rear. Also they look cool with the DF-03 Hard tie rod kit.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 3 жыл бұрын
I think I did it according to the instructions? But I will have a look again 😉 But both adjuster parts (left and right) are not meant to go near the shock tower with turn buckles. That would be very confusing when adjusting. But I will check.
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 жыл бұрын
@@NordicRC Hi Mikael - yes you fitted them correctly. As you look from the front of the buggy, the hex adjusters all point to the right. This means that all can be turned the same direction to lengthen or shorten the arms! :-)

Hey great video dude! I just got the toyota GR supra Tamiya TT02, and I want to convert it to a drift car Rwd. Is that what you are doing now?(sorry I am new to this😖) and can you make a like shopping list or video off where you got all the parts motor and etc. It would make my day sir much love!!💞✌🏻
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben! The motor is stock, and this is a TT-02B. The B stands for buggy, but it's the same chassis, so all parts except the suspension parts (towers, shocks, arms etc.) fit the TT-02 too. Some parts on this I got from EuroRC, other parts I got from Tamico (both in Europe).

What was the purpose on putting glue ontop of the tower? I see it in the instructions but it doesnt make sense

Just for durability, for the layers of the carbon.

Why the glue around the carbon fiber edges? I ordered this hop-up. Can it be crazy glue?
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 3 жыл бұрын
Just to seal it for durability. Not sure what crazy glue is sorry. This super glue I use isn’t the best either. Best to find a glue that doesn’t run easily and one that doesn’t leave a white residue.
@rich-wg5lb
@rich-wg5lb Жыл бұрын
The glue prevents moisture from getting into the laminates which could cause delamination. For the glue I used bsi (Bob Smith Industries) super thin ca, I poured a little out on a plastic plate and applied it with Microbrush superfine applicators. I'm doing this part of the build right now for my Godson Christmas present a Phaser Edge II. From Melbourne Florida USA

Rear shock towers are way too tall and the rear shocks are way too long. The rear suspension only uses about half the travel the shocks have to offer. Tamiya should have made a shorter rear shock tower shorter shocks and less shock offset to combat the extreme flex.
