I did the same, I started my online business two years ago but I kept my job bc I had to invest money on it and the first months incomes aren’t enough especially if you don’t have a fan base on social media. It’s a step by step growth and the first period needs a lot of money to boost the business and sales aren’t enough.

Started and Airbnb business pre pandemic… 15k down the hole. But in hind site, I took that leap. Grew a lot, learned more. And the best part is that I realized I don’t want to pursue airbnb or rental properties. Even though I advise people to be smart, save, and keep safe income…. That leap makes you feel alive because now it’s real. if you are passionate about something you will never stop.

CPA not useful at certain revenue streams. 250K and under, a CPA is not needed. If one can do their own taxes, it means they are not dealing with multiple structures in their business.

@@rockon8174 Disagree...go with a pro (CPA) who understands/knows tax law and will maximize your deductions. They can also advise on tax savings current year and going forward using various legal tax strategies. Go it alone, pay the most. Good luck.

Great advice my son has AADHD lost high paying jobs because of it he's doing his best and seeing a therapist that gets AADHD helps a ton I turned him onto ADHD Jason on youtube so he can see how other professionals deal good luck to you

Sadly it works opposite. I know I can do the work but don't bring myself to do. Which is why my art barely improves despite years of drawing. Mentally drained and hate what I do but want to reach my dreams aswell

Yes, that is very true. I see many artists running their own business, and there are a lot of days where they are spending most of their day managing their business and content creation than actually doing art.

I’m Quitting my 9-5 office work of 2 years. I want to start selling art. I have oil paintings sitting in my garage. I want to just do art and make it my job? But I don’t know how to start that works in selling and making money.

I'm glad to hear you say _"trying to work on myself to not let my fear of failure or imperfection keep me from even trying to do stuff"._ I relate so so much to this and it has been my problem. FEAR has kept me from getting stuff accomplished for the past 10 years of my life (15 years, if i'm being honest) and I have HUGE regrets. This may sound cliché (an I thought it was when I was younger), but 1) *try early and fail early* 2) *stay close to friens/family who'll understand you.* 3) *...and don't let people's opinions of you hinder you...even family.* 4) *One that I still struggle with: "learn to say no". (It can be done respectfully).* Over those 10-15 years, I thought my parents and others wouldn't take me seriously with the things i wanted (and still want) to do, so I never voiced my wants or dreams. Then a few months ago, I mentioned this to one of my parents, and the response was "why didn't you say anything then. I think it's a great idea." 😕 Welp...I almost broke down in tears at that statement. I've cried over the years from the fear, and then the regret, and the latter is much worse than the first. Anyway. I didn't mean to rant. I wish you the best encouragement and success in whatever it is you plan to do. 🙂👍

Now in my mid/late 30s I feel like I have just started understanding this stuff the way you’ve put it and I’m juuuust getting started on what I wish I had done 15yrs ago. But it’s never too late. You are right that the regret is at least as bad if not worse than the fear. I regret not making use of my younger years when I had fewer daily responsibilities and more time. But I’m also at the same time now slowly working on my anxiety and trying to have a more positive, less fear-based outlook on life. Hopefully the combination of these things will lead to something good in the future :-) I wish you all the best with your future too! X

Just wanted to say, same 🫂. 9/5 jobs fell very overwhelming for me. I’d love to be self employed or work remotely. But I’m not academically competent for most of these jobs since I couldn’t even finish high school and go to uni or take a course. All I can do is art but making a living out of it it’s not always easy. Seeing all this young peers succeeding feels both heartwarming and discouraging to me lol. But that’s my insecurity picking up on me. Anyways hope everything turns out great to you 💙💜. Don’t give up.

@@Tua009 I really feel you, 9/5 really sucks if you are a creative. But you shouldn't give up either! I only have my Abitur/A-levels (A bit higher then Highschool in the US I believe? I don't know lol). I have terminated my dental technician Training just after one year, because my bosses where aful and I had mental problems. I gave up university after 5 years, because I couldn't handle working at university and studying at the same time. But my side job from university at a museum became my main gig this way. My Boss hired me permanently, and I have worked myself up to be the secretary. Now it's still a 9/5 that burns me out immensely but you see I have made career despite not having any firm of higher education. Actually many people here in Germany that have said higher education have it very hard to get jobs in their field, and have to take on lower paying jobs. That said there is always a way to set foot into another field if you are ready to learn :). Still I think I am not where I am supposed to be right now. But I am confident that we will both make our way in life :) take care! ❤️

My biggest fear of starting my own shop, and selling art would be to start hating making art in general because it is not a hobby anymore. I mean I have a thousand other Hobbies but this would really concern me. I wish you too lots off luck with your new career :)

Freelance is honestly horrible in Germany because the regulations: insurance is costly and you have a lot of disadvantages, such as finding a place to rent or getting a loan from a bank. Without a steady income, you live on a constant fear of financial ruin.. Of course, there are always people that make it but personally I wouldn't recommend going fulltime freelance, especially if you haven't a partner that's willing to take on financial responsibility in case you fail/ your shop dies down/ you get sick etc.

That was the same thing I went thru. I mean I still do art stuff but didn’t make a career off it. I wasn’t sure if I can make a living doing art work. Now, I see many KZfaqrs making money off Etsy. I’m still on the fence about it. I rather do digital art on the side and focus making money with my office job.

@@tortiabobia It is difficult to follow your passion, but don't give up! I hope you got the chance to take notes from her video, she had great tips that you can apply to most small businesses that are starting up and/or having a difficult time. She is strategically saving money by splitting rent with housemates (and prob her partner too), and does not have car and car insurance payments and gas or maintenance bills. We each have to learn the hard way, as every small business is different, especially for artists like us, but it IS doable! She is so correct that you have to learn from everywhere, do your research, and I strongly suggest a separate bank checking account AND at least for the first year (and BEFORE you start), make an appointment with a CPA who can learn about your business, and tell them about what platforms you want to sell on, and they can give you professional advice how how to make better choices that will save you money in the long run. Like what expenses you can deduct off of your taxes, as a small business owner, etc. What things you must save, such as receipts, etc. Ugh. Lots of work that is non-art. But it still beats working a job you may not like and wishing you were not too tired to follow your art passion when you get home.

I know that making a following is good for business but I think you made the right choice to enjoy the moment. I think we overuse all media and I studied media too. Out eyes and minds can only handle so much before headaches etc. Bravo for living your life🎉you can still build a business.

I saw a video a while ago where it was said that you don't need a lot of followers to make your hobby into a well earning business. If I remember correct, they said you need to understand business and how to sell and put your art out there in stores in a nice presentable way so it draws more people in to buy. Basically it is possible to make it into a business without a high amount of followers because let's be real - it is so difficult to get followers or even noticed as an artist these days

I'd agree attend craft fairs get a nice business card physical unique art sells. Do you, make your art and show it.

Heya! I just wanted to say that feeling young and branching out can feel scary, but please believe that time goes by very quickly- and there are many of us now in our 40’s who are no wiser than we were in our 20’s about a LOT of things. At the end of the day, it’s about what you are willing to in invest in YOURSELF. No gatekeeping with age, or gender, or economical background. Your reality starts with your openness to learning new things. Be brave, walk alone when you have to, but it will pay you back, this ability to buck family or community trends, and don’t be afraid to fail up. Don’t be fooled by appearances on the internet. Don’t compare yourself to others. No one can do what you do, the way YOU do it. Good luck. I believe in you!
