Tampa book review: Adult Education

Prepare yourself, dear viewer, for some "sextracurricular activities", as I review Alissa Nutting's Tampa, a rather notorious novel which explores the serious real-world issue of illicit teacher/student sexual relationships in a way that is so blackly comic and ludicrously pornographic that you won't know whether you're "coming" or going. 😘

I suppose with a name like that she was born to write this book. It's too bad she didn't play with interior conflict, even in a subconscious sense as if the reader can see it even though the narrator can't. Great review! And that thumbnail haha. It's one of those click bait images at the bottom of web articles. And yes it worked.

Yes, I think the nature of the narrator's personality was a bit of a missed opportunity for sure. Literally no waffling at all. :/ And that's funny about the thumbnail pic; I had no idea it was some kind of clickbait from the web. I think I just typed in "sexy teacher" and rolled with what it gave me. XD

I’m no prude. I wasn’t bothered by how graphic the book was. I just wasn’t really interested in Celeste as a character, like you were saying. She was a bit of a cardboard cutout. Nutting’s writing is witty though and somehow keeps you engaged throughout. There’s not much fat that needs to be trimmed, so to say. The pacing is good and writing is very good. There just aren’t many moving parts with the story and character development is lacking. I found it to be more of a satirical parody than a serious drama for sure.

Exactly! There were times reading this book where I really wondered whether it was meant to be taken seriously at all or if it was actually satire.

@@TH3F4LC0Nx I haven’t read Lolita. I’ll probably get to that one next. I landed on your channel with your review of The Turner Diaries. I’d be anxious to hear your thoughts on his other book, Hunter. It’s supposed to be more realistic but I haven’t read either of them. I just did some light research after watching the movie American History X (1998). But I also have to make it known, as you did in your video, my political/cultural views do NOT at all align with theirs. But I thought the movie was good.

Thanks, lol! XD I had a better one than this one for my "In a Glass Darkly" book review last year, but it was too risqué and KZfaq pulled it down. XD (I kinda like to push the envelope. XD)
