I've been wanting to try an all-in-one lens that has a full range of decently wide to full telephoto capability. That way when I don't feel like bringing two cameras to make a video I can use the single lens with a camera like the Canon EOS M50. Knowing me I wanted to go as cheap as possible so I found it being sold on KEH bargain rated used for lens than half of the retail price. This is the EF mount version. For the outdoors video and photos I was using the Fotodiox EF to EF-M adapter that has a few quirks, but it worked alright. I did also quickly test it on the Canon EOS 30D without any issues. In the video I show you video clips with the lens, edited photos, bokeh, and a lot more. Update: Don't but this lens if you want to use it on EF-M. Since then I've had issues with the M50 and M5 with the aperture. So far it has been working fine with my Canon EOS 30D, so I think it's a compatibility issue rather than a bad copy of the lens.

I don't recommend this lens for EF-M. I'm having issues with the lens when on the M50 and M5, though it's working okay on my old Canon EOS 30D.

Be sure to correct mount. It's made in Canon EF, Sony A, and Nikon F mount.

Update: Don't but this lens if you want to use it on EF-M. Since then I've had issues with the M50 and M5 with the aperture. So far it has been working fine with my Canon EOS 30D, so I think it's a compatibility issue rather than a bad copy of the lens.

I use this lens with my Nikon D90. It is quite heavy and bulky but in a way I do quite like that. The only thing I've found is that I do get quite a lot of lens creep when pointing the camera down.

So far as comparing this lens to my 6 other lenses which are Canon for my Canon 850D camera, this Tamron 18-200mm lens wins out for the kinds of photography I do. It's a great lens.

I love this lens as I use it on my Nikon D5500. It's great for street photography this lens is. I use this Tamron 18-200mm alongside my Youngnou 35mm and 50mm lenses and my Nikon 18-55 kit lens.

Thanks for great video. Hope all is well with you and yours. Just a question though. Have you had an opportunity to try this lens with the M50 and Viltrox? If you have, what were your results? According to Viltrox this lens isn't on the compatibility list. Just so you know I am looking for an affordable all in one telephoto lens that with this type of range and offers descent exposure. TYI Joe.

There is a short clip of that combination in the video. This is an APS-C lens. It has visible vignetting throughout the entire zoom range. Totally not usable with the Viltrox speed booster.

Why the speedbooster cant match with Tamron lens im has same problem too i think whatever the ef mounting lens can match with speedbooster without vignet

This lens is designed for APS-C sized sensors. They made the glass inside it smaller. A speed booster needs a lens designed for full-frame sensors or 35mm film.

i'm using canon m50 and Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5 -6.3 Di III VC. When i switch into manual mode and shoot at 18-70 mm it says that communications between the camera and lens is faulty (even if the lens contacts are clean though). ISO is at 8000, F9.0, Shutter speed 250. What should i do?

I haven't used that lens. Is it EF or the EF-M tamron? If it's EF, what adapter are you using? Sounds like when you move the lens the contacts might be disconnecting. Or maybe the lens has some issue inside it. Just guessing here.

Hi so i have a normal ef-efm adapter rather than a speedbooster. My question is are u having problems on a speedbooster or the normal adapter for the m50?

This lens had a problem with my EF-M cameras regardless of the adapter. I tried the official Canon one and a Fotodiox one. It's an EF-S lens so the Viltrox speed booster isn't something I ever tried to use with it and I doubt it would have fit. I don't have the lens anymore. I'd suggest buying a Canon lens or finding a 3rd party one someone has verified to work with EF-M.

Is the lens supposed to fall out of it's original position when pointing the camera down or did I get a defective lens?

That's called "zoom creep". It's why the lens has a lock on the barrel. When you are transporting the lens, turn the lock on. As lenses get older they tend to have more zoom creep. That said, if the zoom ring feels really strange when shifting it back and forth there could potentially be some type of issue. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoom_creep

Yeah it should work, but with third party lenses there is always the potential for firmware quirks on cameras that were released after the lens came out. Only way to know is to try it.

On what camera? I've tried using this Tamron on my EF-M cameras and it often have errors where I'm forced to reset the camera. Don't get it for EF-M. Though on the 30D it has been working fine. I'd always suggest official Canon lenses over 3rd party if you can afford it. As for 18-200 vs 18-135, get whatever one has the focal length range you want at a price you want to pay. I haven't personally used them.

I've had serious problems with this lens on EF-M. I suggest not getting it if you have an M50.

Issues with the lens losing connection to EF-M cameras. The lens always worked fine on my old 30D so I think it is incompatible with EF-M rather than my copy having an issue. Here is a search on my channel for other videos on the lens: m.kzfaq.infosearch?query=tamron%2018-200mm

So the fact is mounting with M50 not ideal. I have M50 as 2nd camera looks I shoupd buy 55-250 EFS or 55-200 Native for M50. Where as 18-400 should work nicely on Apsc DSLR.

Not a great option considering the old slow autofocus system. The lens has problems on EF-M when adapted. Are you using an EF-M mirror less camera, EF-S DSLR or RF mount camera?

Regarding the M50+Viltrox speed booster combo, does the vignetting only happen when shooting video or also when taking photos? I only plan to use this combo for photography only

This is an aps-c lens. Photos would be worse than video in regard to vignetting. I no longer have this gear. Not sure I even bothered trying to use that lens with the speed booster. Use an actual EF lens with the speed booster. My opinion is that the lens is generally not compatible with EF-M due to the issues I had with this lens.

Sorry, I haven't used that Canon lens but I'm going to assume you would get better results with it compared to the Tamron. Lenses that do wide angle like the Tamron tend to have more optical compromises compared to a longer zoom lens.

Canon 55-250mm HANDS DOWN!!!!! Want me to prove it? Hit me up I'll send you a picture I took for a production headshot. I used it on my Sony A6000 full manual. Results outdid the 24-70mm big time. Details are freakin spectacular.

I have both lenses. The Canon 54-250mm is good for telephoto and macro photography for myself but I use the Tamron 18-20mm I use for portraits and photographing plants and stuff like. They both serve a purpose.

I've been having issues with this lens since this video. I can't recommend it. You could get decent portraits with a lens like this if you used a long enough focal length, but with the smaller aperture you won't get the soft backgrounds of something like an 85mm f/1.8 lens would be able to produce.

No idea, the M50's 1080p isn't the most amazing ever. This lens has problems when being adapted to ef-m. I've made a lot of other videos on it where I tested various combinations out.

With 3rd party lenses there is no way of knowing for sure how it will work, but I had no issues with it on a 30D which is a lot older.

The music is from the KZfaq audio library called "Heaven and Hell (Part 2)" by Jeremy Blake and labeled as cinematic and dramatic, so I guess could be the creator's intent. I personally don't see it. I like the guitar riffs and string instrument sequences.

@@ScottJWaldron I also have the Tamron 18 - 200mm. Tried on my Eos 4000d and Eos 250d. I hate to say but it drains my battery quite fast with only 120 shots. Overall, it's a good go to lens for those who are lazy to bring a prime and a zoom..
