Headcanon time: the mysterious "customer" the kidnappers are working for is the Tandy Corporation... and Alec and Shanna were their first victims! Think about it.

I think Ms. Wilson was "The Customer". This is how she gets new students for the class of the damned.

I thought the funniest moment was one Linkara skipped. At 10:00 we get the following exchange "...who's here to give us some very important advice, DETECTIVE SHAW!" "Good Morning Ms Wilson, I'm DETECTIVE SHAW." This had me in stitches. The lady just introduced you to the class, you don't need to introduce yourself to her!

"Coastal City"... yeah, I'm standing by my original theory from "Fit to Win" that this is the same town as Coast City and that it's Alec and Shanna using their Tandy computer that attracted Hank Henshaw and Mongul who destroyed the city and drove Hal Jordan insane. Ever since that horrifying day, Alec and Shanna who miraculously survived have been stuck in a mental loop of the same school day repeating over and over, trying to find SOME WAY to avert this catastrophe but always failing to drive the human Green Lantern to expunge his entire corps in grief-driven rage.

Little do you know Linkara that "The Customer" was set up for the Tandy Expanded Universe (TEU) which culminates in the crossover "Tandy computer whiz kids V. Future 5"

I'm convinced Alec and Shanna are failed prototypes for Tandy's android project.

The Tandy Computer Whiz Kids are STILL here? Dear Lord, they have more sequels than Friday The 13th!

I want there to be a parody of these comics that savagely mocks every trope the series keeps reusing. Like, for instance, Miss Wilson is literally a robot, and when she talks about summer vacation, she glitches out and keep repeating "summer vacation", complete with creepy as hell fake smile of enthusiasm, prompting an actual teacher to walk in and hit her over the head to fix her. Whenever somebody brings up Tandy products and discuss about its features, they just do a straight up advertising, complete with the backdrop changing to that of an infomercial. Every. Single. Time it happens. At the requisite awarded, whoever is tasked with giving the award just looks completely disinterested, giving a half-hearted and half-assed congratulatory speech before chucking the medals or whatever at Alec and Shanna's face, and then leaves. All the while, Alec and Shanna, now recast as the only sane people in the comic, just watches on, being deeply terrified and more than a little traumatized by the insanity that keeps happening around them.

Given Ms Wilson's disregard for teaching, parental consent, and the like, she is obviously a villain in disguise. She's amassed information on Superman and Wonder Woman, and delights in brainwashing children under the pretext of kindness. GRANNY GOODNESS! This entire set of comics, including their time warps, must be the result of some variation on Darkseid"s Omega Sanction, which I hereby dub the Omega Summer-Vacation. Likely as punishment for the stupidity of the Amazons attack ending.

I fully believe that the kids still are alive today and still metaphorically wank over Tandy And then whenever they see someone with something like an iPhone they try to convince them that Tandy products are better They then go into commas from either someone saying everything else is better or annoyed people beating them up and they get amnesia and continue over and over again

Clearly "The customer" is Crazy Steve looking for a new Robin

Theory: Tandy has abducted a classroom of kids and has been mentally conditioning them to become minions of their plan for global domination in the computer arms race. Any time their programming begins to break down and they show signs of realizing what is happening, they're put through further conditioning. The phrases 'back from summer vacation' and 'the surprise is Tandy products' are used by the liason named Ms. Wilson to test the kids, to ensure that the conditioning is intact. Alec and Shanna are, in reality, super advanced androids built to resemble appropriately-aged children, and are used to not only learn more about what kids like, but to do the actual teaching of how to use the Tandy computers and modem. Alec is the older model, and some of his circuits are beginning to break down, thus why Shanna is often the more competent of the two. 'The Customer' is likely Batman, working to help take down Tandy and their global dominance. Superman and the others have actually been working to undo the mental conditioning by pretending to assist Ms. Wilson with her lessons on Tandy products.

Early on in the review, he says that he already used the "Space Warp" clip, eventhough he hasn't. But he plays it later... Because Space as warped and Time is bendable ! That... is a freakin' genius joke.

I feel like the Shanna voice sounds like Tea from YuGiOh Abridged.

This comic reminds me of a Justice League episode where they meet the Justice Guild. It turns out that there was nuclear war, and the Justice Guild was killed because they sacrificed themselves to save the town. However the idealistic town, as well as the Justice Guild still existing, is due to being trapped in an endless day being controlled by a mutated child named, Ray. Maybe Alec, and Shana, are also mutated children who have trapped their town in an endless loop of the same day. The super heroes, that make surprise visits, would also be an illusion.

16:13 given that I used to watch detective Conan since I was 8. Shana watching crime stories is the most believable thing about this comic. At least for me.

The everyday of school is the first day back from summer vacation thing, coupled with their overly cheerful attitudes, reminds me of that one episode of Farscape where the cast was trapped on a planet where the populous was drugged and brainwashed into thinking every day was Friday. Each day the entire planet would slave away exited because, ''Tomorrow is the day of rest.'' But that day would never come. I'm convinced that's what's happening here. Man, the standards for awards have really changed since these days. These kids get all these awards and acclamations just for saving one kid. At my school, stopping a kidnapping and preventing drug runners at best got you a participation trophy.

After graduating from college, both Alec and Shanna would move out of Coastal City heading out west to California. Passed the inhospitable and highly dangerous desert landscape known as the Badlands and to a place called Night City. There, they would ply their trade with computers and would soon become skilled Netrunners, working with some of the top fixers in Night City while also often crossing paths with the mysterious and charismatic figure known as Johnny Silverhand.

So, who wants to make the remaining issues a patreon reward two-parter just so we can finally put this tandy nightmare behind us?

You know what's funny? Tandy Corporation started out as a leather and crafts company. RadioShack was a company they acquired in 1963... and by 2000, they had become RadioShack Corporation. Also, Nintendo started out as a playing card manufacturer, and Coleco was responsible for the Cabbage Patch Kids... and also started off as a leather company (COnnecticut LEather COmpany). ... random trivia!

When i was 6 i got my first computer with a modem it had win 95, before that i had a windows 3.1 machine. I said "wow it has a modem!?". So Yes, there was at least one kid that said "wow it has a modem" sincerely, and I was he.

Just like the Simpsons the Tandy Computer Wiz Kids are forced to relieve the same day over and over with a different outcome every time

This just makes me wonder...who even owns the rights to the Tandy Computer Whiz Kids? I feel like someone in DC (assuming their rights are in there somewhere) would put them in a modern situation, let them talk about technological jargon, maybe even shorten their name to Whiz Kids and let them be computer supergeniuses, yet if all the systems get compromised they could actually fall back on a set of Tandy computers in a private link to each other, maybe as some sort of nod to their origins. I dunno, these days we could totally make something out of these characters Radio Shack beat into the ground.

So I know there is an occasional comic where it isn't just after summer break, but is there ever not a surprise for the class? I've just binge watched a playlist of all the whiz kids reviews and I'm pretty sure she says it every single time.

I think the logic is, they weren’t expecting anyone to ever read them back to back. Like, they’re only “good” for a year or so in the eyes of folks commissioning them. So, why not re-use stock up plot elements.

Oh dear, that art was reaching Chick Tract levels near the end.

To be fair, they didn't just spot and ID they guy, they also promptly reported the information to people who could use it meaningfully. As opposed to, say, something dumb like using the CoCo to make and print wanted posters. Look at it this way: Maybe their Tandy exhibit was only considered good enough for the last day of the fair! A database and electronic encyclopedia access would be neat in the days when it was novel to have that.

As for that scene where the detective is falling and the crook is shooting into the air, I THINK what's suppose to be happening is that the crook pulls out his gun while running, Shaw jumps at the crooks feet and trips him, the crook falls (firing his gun into the air) and then the crook is arrested. It's just badly drawn.

21:34 Ah. It all makes sense now. The school these children go to is an Eldritch Location. Non-Euclidean geometries, time repeating over and over with slight differences each time, and inhabited by the children of the damned. Everything just falls into place with that explanation.

It would be hilarious if the kids were being kidnapped for slave labor in a sweatshop manufacturing computers...knowing the "Whiz Kids", they'd probably volunteer for it... :-P

The characters in this comic freaks me out. They all speak in perfect grammar. I think they all might be robots. No wonder they love computers so much.

The detective's leap from running away to hard drugs kind of reminds me of that one series of commercials where the entire point was being ridiculous. Starting with something innocuous related to the product (I honestly forgot what it was), then it gets progressively more and more removed from reality, until the commercial ends with a bizarre tagline that doesn't match with the product at all, and that was kind of the joke.

I love these Tandy reviews. I'm going to be sad when we're out of them to review, but I hope they get replaced with something as great.

"Three guesses what Ms. Wilson starts us off with." Without looking at the obvious clue on the screen, my first guess was computers, my second was drugs, and my third was summer vacation. I believe those guess can work for any interaction that Ms. Wilson ever had with her students.
