Hazmat safety is a shared responsibility, which is why railroads work closely with their customers, equipment suppliers, government agencies, rail labor and others to continually advance hazmat safety. More than 99.9% of rail hazmat shipments reach their destination without a release. This video is intended to assist shippers and receivers of hazardous materials in reducing NARs by providing a guide for the proper securement of tank cars. Most of this information is based on the recommended industry practices found in the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Pamphlet 34, Recommended Methods for the Safe Loading and Unloading of Non-Pressure (General Service) and Pressure Tank Cars.
