To explain some sense of Logic in this movie, if a person is immediately DIRECTLY saved like when Alex saved Carter then "it" (Death's Design) essentially skips them and moves to the next person in the chain, which was (Stifler) Billy. Alex's "sacrifice" didnt work because he (from what i can gather) didn't really die or wasnt fully dead so all he did was just saved Clear, and so it was still his turn it just waited to catch up to him. And after he was saved by carter it immediately went back to the earliest person in the current chain that would have died, which was Carter.

For me these movies are just about seeing what crazy ways they can come up with to brutally murder these poor characters.

22:58 the reason it skipped him then was the same reason it skipped all of them in the opening, when they got off of the aircraft, that was Death's new 2nd design. So now, Death has to go and finish the list in order with those still alive. Once the design has been executed for all of those on the list, Death with go back and begin a NEW 3rd design for anyone who survived Death's 2nd design.

Glad you’re watching this. The whole franchise is designed to just be quirky fun, IMHO. Like how in Saw, the expectations are the elaborate nature of the traps and whatever the plot reveal at the end is. In Final Destination, everyone looks for however the scene is set up to eventually kill the survivors. There are 5 FD films to date. A sixth entry is said to be in preproduction, according to IMDb. The fourth is widely considered the worst by all the fans, myself included. Hope you’ll watch more of them.

I agree with you! I think that’s the sad thing about this movie. Death is inevitable ( it seems) so you basically just watch Alex torture himself trying to save people he can’t. Reminds me of the existential question “if you knew exactly how you were going to die, would you want to know?” What’s the point? If you can’t change it How crazy would it make you to know? Poor Alex

Carter nailed the rules at the end he explained it. Once you're skipped you go to the end of the line and then it goes to the next person who was supposed to die, if you're not next you're basically immortal, everyone in front of you in line has been saved or killed it comes back for you.

Maybe it's because I can't handle proper/classic horror but the FD series is the perfect style of survival horror. I keep coming back to this series 2 decades later, like it doesn't age for me.. and the special effects in the first movie still impress me. And speaking of impressed, I am in disbelief that you caught the foreshadowing from when Clear landed on the coffin. I absolutely did not pick up on that when I first watched it.

This is the only movie I've ever been too where that ending instantly got a standing ovation and compliments heard throughout rows of strangers to each other how wow great brilliant new original the movie was people were whistling there were roars of yeah! And that was really really cool experiencing that moment as it was experiencing Scream 2 in theaters cause the opening scene in scream 2 with Ghostface costumes was exactly how everyone in the theatre was acting but without Ghostface customes

You can't cheat death, it'll get you when you least expect it. On thing I noticed about the film is the frequent references to water. Water is commonly a symbol of death, burial and resurrection. Death seems to be personified by water in the film. There's the water in the bathroom when Tod dies. There's a scene with Alka-Seltzer being dropped into a glass of water. There's the steaming kettle and the water leaking from the cracked mug. Alex almost drowns in shallow water. There's the canoe trip. There's the swimming-pool. It's raining when they're in the car. One of the characters is even named "Clear Rivers." Even the beer they're drinking could be considered water. By the way, Tod foreshadowed his own death, when he made a hanging motion out of frustration when Alex changed seats with the girls. Also, when Carter almost died on the train tracks, afterwards it looks like he peed his pants. Can't say I blame him. Another thing I saw was the use of German language and references to German filmmakers who were known for some famous, what you might call, horror movies. "Der Tod" is the German word for "death." Tod's the first survivor to die. In real life, if I were him, I wouldn't like that name and would have been very concerned from the get-go after the plane exploded. The character of French teacher Murnau is almost certainly a reference to the F. W. Murnau, a German director regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers for his work in the silent era. He famously directed "Nosferatu," a film about a vampire. Agent Schreck is a reference to the German actor Max Schreck who played the vampire, Count Orlok, in "Nosferatu." Interestingly, "Schreck" in German means "scare" or "fright." Agent Weine must be named after Robert Weine. He directed "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari."

Todd is from Saw The Final Chapter and he isn't shitty at all lmao. His character was one of the most interesting parts of the movie. I don't get why people hate him lmao. He played this charming cop who knew his shit. He isn't exactly an Agent Strahm but he was good enough. He was much better than Bobby. I also just saw the Carter actor in My Bloody Valentine 3D last night and Devon Sawa's so great. Glad Chucky gave him a chance back in horror. Great cast of characters in this. Alex Browning is my favorite of the franchise. His acting is on par so well. FD3 is my favorite with this one. This is such a great concept. I could see it being turned into a TV Show one day. When Billy died, their kind of worried about not dying by Death and Alex was realizing exactly how it worked and that it skipped Carter and went right to the next one in line. Billy.

I think one of the creators said once that they did intend for Alex to die at the end, and it would be revealed that Clear and him had a kid in the epilogue or something(???) But that ending didn't go over great with test audiences. So, your observation about the coffin shot was not wrong, based on that~^.^

7:18 my reaction would have probably been like God dang it I'm in a final destination movie and then I would have asked hey what order did I die in and then I would have probably tried to see if I could just end it myself because I would not want to die via ropgilberg death. 15:52 I don't know if the comic is Canon or not but apparently the bus driver who ran her over ended up getting fired and then ended up having his own final destination type scenario where instead of him dying in a situation instead he saw multiple other people died by a serial killer by the five senses.

When I first saw Final Destination as an 11 yo kid it was not from the beginning, and on top of that the sound was turned off for some reason. So basically what I saw was an unknown movie where people get killed by not a maniac, not a monster, not even a ghost or a person, but by your very usual daily things and items, moving and "acting" on their own in many unexpected ways as if they're being alive, for an unknown reason - like, I didn't even know it was Death! I was so scared every little thing around me scared me. Been a fan ever since.

When I first saw this film, I don't believe I had ever seen a story like it, so it was easy to invest myself in. I thought it was a clever high concept film that was well executed. 'What if you survived death but were supposed to die, so death came after you?' I wasn't really interested in watching the sequels, had no interest in seeing the same story again and again with more shocking deaths for sadistic thrills. I agree that the only character's death on the chain that they spend any film time mourning was Tod, and with some of the character deaths they were somewhat blase and lacked any tact. I also think though that was the choice of the writer or director - to keep the pace going, by having the characters we'd spent the least time getting to know die shockingly but unceremoniously. It wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, more like a teen slasher flick from the 80s rather than The Mist (2007).

Have you not seen any of the sequels? If not, I recommend you do. Also, I don't think they had much time to mourn the deaths. After the second person died, they had to worry about death coming after them instead on mourning

What a terrible, terrible series - so much fun! And imo, yours is exactly the correct reaction - this is dumb, characters suck, but it's hilarious and they do a good job of "which horrific fate will befall this character? Is it the scissors? Is it the the razor?" etc. etc. with their stupid Rube-Goldberg death traps They get "worse", imo - but given that it starts as goofy silly fun, I don' think it matters very much =P looking forward to more
