The "noch ein bier"is probably the most reconigisable chant for Sabaton fans, many countries adapted it. Except for the dutch they created their own "Broek uit, op je hoofd" is what the dutch chant, which means "pants off, on your head" and somehow they get Joakim so far to do it every time they perform in The Netherlands. Also recommend "Future of Warfare"Which is about the introduction of the TANK as a weapon onto the battlefield in 1916.

An interesting thing about Sabaton is also: They don't universally vilify one country, and uplifting and deifying another. There is 'The Last Battle' on the 'Last Stands' album, where a german (well, austrian, to be precise) german is, alongside an american tank commander, lauded for heroics. 'The Great War' has a song about Manfred von Richthofen (the 'Red Baron'), the song 'No Bullets Fly' recognizes the deeds of a german pilot escorting a near wrecked, barely holding up bomber out of german territory. Or 'Hearts of Iron'. That song might be interesting in regards of the 'Why are Germans going wild for Sabaton?'.

As a German, after all the things happened in those wars in Europe and the two world wars, I take every song as a reminder that we humans do things to ourselves nobody actually can cheer on. Heros and false heros were born in bad times where millions of people, regardless of their nationality, suffered. Being proud of those heros is always a 2-edged sword. Glorifying them without gloryfying war itself and not being nationalistic is what we should do. The band is doing it in the right way. The stories which were told in my family were very sad and no one involved as soldier was happy being part of the machine. On the contrary, one of them, my grandpa, is a hero of mine, because he fought against Hitler from the beginning, in the Spanish Civil War and untill the end of this shit.

On how or why they Sabaton songs will find an audience in every country: There is a quite simple plan (if you will) behind creating all of their songs: They choose topics / storys which show exceptional bravery, highest deeds of honour or amazing accomplishments and build them into songs without ever glorifying war or any of the sides who fought against each other. Pretty much everybody who has an open mind will "agree" with the messages they are sending out, so naturally, their songs are bangers pretty much everywhere they play them. There are a few videos of Joakim and / or Hannes where they explain how and why they write their music as they do. It is all about the people and the listeners get that and embrace it. Best shown in their most recent animated video for "No Bullets Fly" The story of the song itself is amazing and what happend after they released it 6 years ago, makes you love it even more. Highly recommended!

There is literally no Sabaton song that you can go wrong with. They’re all amazing. No Bullets Fly is outstanding. They have an animated video and I highly highly recommend you watch it. It starts with an animated story of the history and then goes in to the song itself. You won’t need a separate lyric video for that one but it’s always good to have a look on their website for the one paragraph overview of the story before you listen. Blood of Bannockburn is the Scottish one (and since I’m from Scotland that’s the one we all go wild for, of course) and it’s the only song Joakim has ever written in a major key. Also, on the power metal note - Sabaton themselves don’t consider themselves a power metal band. Pär has said the same as you in a few interviews; they don’t have the fantasy lyrics or the high vocals. In fact, they have opposite of both of those things! They just consider themselves a heavy metal band, and since Joakim writes all the songs and happens to like a catchy melody, that’s what he writes.

When Sgt York did this. It was not known in the US for a while because during the battle of hill 223. The story of the Lost Battalion was also happening. Which sabaton has also done a song on called "the last battalion" where they used the sound of a machine gun as the kick drum, a 9mm as the snare, and a knife going into a person as the cymbal.

Sergeant York became kind of the epitome of this unachievable, stars-aligning heroism in battle for a while there. If you read books about World War 2 in particular, you see it a lot with veterans commenting any particularly brave and/or foolhardy move...."he must've thought he was Sergeant York or something"

Great reaction! I really like Sabatons neutral approach to their lyrics. They don't put down anyone, instead they focus on the story. No matter the nation or the army. Storytelling. There were heroes and horrible battles in every nation and war. The soldiers fighting in the trenches weren't political, just trying to survive and get back to their families. Also great background music on the outro 😊🤘

"how's the german crowd's gonna take this song?" Well... Sabaton say it a LOT and it's an info to remember. When singing they do not glorify the war or the sides. they sing about historical events that happened and that were reported. The thing is the war is over for a long time now. Being French and living at the border of Germany, ther's no tension remaining at all. Our ancients even have a strong history with germans at the borders and very often do we "exchange" visitors from side to side. Because for 50 years the brder blurred a lot and after all, the Rhenan région has strong local Identity both french and german and with time.... it's friendship that remains.

"I wonder how a German crowd will take this song." It's important to remember that many a German sees America as liberating them from the Nazi's. Of course, they all hated the old Kaiser's (their king, essentially, bit more complex, but it gives you the idea). So, WW1 or WW2, the educational system of the Germans has been teaching that their government's weren't held accountable by their people, and they all paid the price. They blame there, now overthrown, government for their problems of the time. In my opinion, America did more then win the physical war, they won the hearts and minds.

I would recommend "hearts of Iron" Probably one of my favorite songs by them, about two german battalions (think it was) during world war 2 that ignored hitlers orders to fight to the end and instead kept the way open for civilians to flee.

Its a very rare thing for us to ask someone to do a shoey.. And only from those who wouldnt consider it an insult hahahah, whch noably is not many people. The fact that you were asked and complied, just goes to reinforce what a legend you are Bro!!!

Hahaha. Yeah, we were doing a music festival in Australia and they kept chanting “shoey” at the artist between songs, and he said he’d do it if one of his other crew guys did it with him. So I did. Haha

Sabaton have a genius for combining power with the catchiest songs. And then live you add in the sheer joy of their performance. The Amaranthe studio cover and live version with Sabaton are also well worth checking out.

Would be cool to do a reaction to the songs they did for hearts of iron, crusader kings and europa universalis

Check out the movie Sgt York, which starred Gary Cooper. Alvin York was on set as a technical advisor and saw Cooper lighting up a cigarette while wearing a replica of York's uniform. York had given up drinking and smoking after becoming a Christian, so he asked Cooper if he could refrain from smoking while wearing the uniform. Cooper had so much admiration and respect for York that he complied with this request.

Two more things I think are worth mentioning regarding sergeant York: In that famous day, he lost his best friend. Then York just snapped and in the heat of his fury decided to take care alone of that machine gun nest (he was known to be an extraordinary shooter even before this event). And the second thing is that after the war ended, although he was seen as a national hero for his bravery, York was kind of ashamed his entire life of his deeds because he was highly religious and he never believed he can be capable of such things. In fact, when he was called to enroll he wrote a letter in which he refused military service because of his religious beliefs. He was refused and forced to go to war, obviously.

"Attack of dead men" is a favorite of mine! Also, guitarist Tommy Johansson has his own band - Majestica - that is worth checking out. It's very "powery", but they released a Christmas album (YESSS, christmas power metal!) in december and it's a masterpiece :D And, his voice is unreal!

Lmao! I love this song. I know several guys who were in the 82 Airborne. My friend's husband and his friends were all 82nd. Most crowds see this as history and don't find it offensive if it's about their country being defeated. Hell Germany took over how many countries? My Stepfather was German. But his Mom fled during WWII and changed his name. It was Adolf. Yes, after Hitler. Then when he graduated H.S. he joined the US military and devoted the rest of his life to freedom! 🇺🇸💕🇩🇪

I'm very glad you said 'given' the Medal of Honor, because too often people say a person won, or earned the Medal, which is incorrect. You cannot win the Medal because it is not a prize, and you cannot earn it because it is not payment, in fact, most people who are awarded the Medal of Honor are awarded it posthumously.

Sabaton, as a band has a really great team and social media. They uploaded videos from each leg of their European tour, and additional footage with the guys (backstage, crew etc). As a fan who is in Australia (hence we don;t get them as often), its really great. Not too mention their social media team are hilarious.

Walk of the Dead Men is great, as it has really cool production stuff, and the bank actually contacted a Russian artist called Radio Tapok, who does music covers, before the song was officially released and asked him to do a Russian translation an interpretation of the song and release it. They then invited him to perform live with them during their Moscow concert, performing the song.

I love how in every live performance Sabaton is having fun and they want to have fun with the crowd. They have even played without Joakim having the guitar players sing all the lyrics because they refuse to cancel. Check out the story of Sabaton at Hellfest 2019. Par does an interview with Radio Metal about how that happened. Joakim may not have been singing but he's the best hype man ever.

If there is one thing I learn from every video that Sabaton does, aside from loads of history? One thing I learn from every live show they do? These guys know how to have a ridiculously good time. They love what they do, and it shows. The energy is infectious. I'm looking forward to more of these Sabaton Saturdays, and I couldn't agree more about their marketing. Probably the best marketing I have ever seen by a metal band. ETA: Love the Jinjer and Nanowar up on the wall!
