For their upcoming album "The War to End All Wars," SABATON puts out another greusome and touching video featuring the story of Sir Adrian Carton De Wiar, the unkillable soldier. His story is amazing, having suffered many deadly wounds, tunneling out of a POW camp, and surviving through three separate wars. SABATON always finds the best stories to tell in their melodic way.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to SABATON performing "The Unkillable Soldier”.

The soldier the song is talking about, Adrian Carton de Wiart was a British Army officer born to Belgian and Irish parents. He participated in the Boer War, the First and Second World Wars. He was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; was blinded in his left eye; survived two plane crashes; tunnelled out of a prisoner-of-war camp, and tore off his own fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them. Describing his experiences in the First World War, he wrote, "Frankly I had enjoyed the war." For surviving all this, he is known as "The unkillable soldier".

Sir Adrian Carton De Wiar is such an incredible man! shot in the eye, tore off he's own fingers when they were blown up, got shot in nearly every part of he's body, survived 2 plane crashes and even dug he's way out of a Prisoner Camp and lived to be 83! and that final sentence is what he said about the war. what a wild Pirate Gentlemen he was.

The lyrics "an immortal solider finds his home" really rings true for this character. The man felt uncomfortable in the normal world. Times of peace were painful for him. He felt comfortable, and he felt like his true self on the battle field. Even before going to war he felt this way, indicating he was just hard wired that way. Someone like this can be dangerous as they always feel restless and are prone to getting into trouble, but when the world is on fire, a person like this truly do find their home.

Your comment to the effect that Joakim's voice is just right for the subject matter of Sabaton's songs is a thought i've had as well. A great example in action is theirs song "82nd All the Way" which was covered by Amaranthe. The cover is actually very good and I mean them no disrespect, but there are a number of parts to the song where I think Joakim's voice just gives the song more emotional power.

Another wickedly cool person in war is sgt roy benavidez during the vietnam war who went into the jungle alone to rescue his friend and their little squad from a ambush from a NVA battalion of about 1,000. He fought them off with his heavily wounded fellows and himself received 37 separate wounds of different types like stab wounds, bullet wounds, and shrapnel wounds. He even loaded dead NVA soldiers onto the huey when they escaped. Oh and before all of that with his time in the US army (since during his “6 hours in hell” where he received those wounds, he was part of the green berets) he stepped on a land mine and was told he couldnt walk again but despite this he got up everynight and pulled himself up to walk go further each time for a year when he then WALKED out of the hospital to then train as hard as he could to get back into service. (Also he was full of tears and pain when pushing himself to walk during his hospitalization and he still had pain from the wounds afterwards and into his service with the green berets).

I really love listening to your analysis of songs and singers, and only found your channel lately. Now as a US service member I personally enjoy "Screaming Eagles", but I'm biased because I served with them. I'd love to see you do something from Volbeat. I've always loved there music as well like "Levithian".

Speed metal with speed singing. Love Sabaton. I really appreciate how they don't choose sides. Just make songs about the soldiers that fought, regardless of which side. But, I can't help but be a bit more fond of Devil Dogs than the rest of their catalog. Semper Fi.

Hello there, it is so great, that you react to so different music. I found your channel because of your home free reactions and now I watch this one and it. Your emotions are so strong and honest, Sabaton have a way to get the listener involved. The music really portraying the madness of this man and the whole situation. You are doing a great job. Did you ever here Tommy Johansson sing? He is Sabaton's guitarist. Please please check him out he is so talented. Listen to his cover of The phantom of the opera. He also has his own band Majestica formerly Reinxeed. Just amazing. Please please listen to him

Indy Neidell, the desk-sitting actor in the first seconds of the video, is a youtube documentarian who along with a crack team, does historical documentaries on WW2 "in real time" as a weekly show right now. He previously also worked on the channel "the great war" which covered WW1 weekly in real time 100 years apart. I'd heartily recommend checking out their channel, Timeghost. right now, they're actively working on a series that contextualizes the war in Ukraine and the suffering Ukraine has been subjected to that outright challenges Putin's narrative. He's a personal hero of mine and having seen American media, it should be a fresh breath for anyone from overseas, not used to objective media that doesn't push an agenda. They also have a Sabaton History channel where he dives into the subject matter of a broad swathe of Sabaton songs. I'd recommend that for even the casuallest of listeners. It really underlines the depth of this otherwise pop-metal sounding band. Some put in the sound, some put it in the material. Edit: guess i just repeated what other people said more concicely,

@the charismatic voice Please review Linkin Park Given Up. Chester Bennington has one of the widest voice ranges I’ve ever heard, and the control of his voice and how he can “scream/distortion” is insane. Chester committed suicide after losing his close friend Chris Cornell. He sung at Chris’ funeral.

Incredible what this guy survived, he was without a doubt a bit of a madman, loving war, and forcing himself in line of shot over and over again, but that doest make hes story less incredible!! The song itself, if you dont fancy it at first listen, give it a few listens, its a grower, it also was for me, first time i listened i thought, arrhh its a medium good song for the Sabaton catalog, but yeah, it did raise a bit in that ranking listening a few more times..

The subject of this song reminds me of Samuel Whittemore, who was a 78 year old who participated in the battle of Lexington and Concord. He shot and killed 3 British soldiers before getting shot in the face and being bayoneted numerous times and left for dead. Despite the damage to his body he recovered and lived 18 more years, dying of natural causes. Sometimes people just keep surviving.

Watching you analyze these songs. Reminds me of introducing my niece, and 25 years later my grand niece, to heavy metal. They were raised on country music. Don't get me wrong. Alan Jackson is a cousin twice removed. But I introduced my grand niece to Iron Maiden. She became a teacher. And I pointed out that Iron Maiden were unrequited history teachers. She introduced me to Sabaton.

I said it in a comment on Tank the Tech's channel: each time that nurse popped up, seeing his smile and reaction to seeing her, feeling her touch, I just fully expected Yakko, Wakko, and Dot to pop out and exclaim "Hello! Nurse!" If the actor's portrayal is actually accurate (need to research myself on this one), then, seriously: I expected him to at least mouth at some point that he just got hurt 'cause he missed seeing her--whatever her name was (no disrespect, but have not found it on Google).
