In this video I hope to teach you a few things about brain tanning deer skins to create hair on pelts, and add a story in about myself to give you a laugh just for good measure.

I have learned so much watching your vids. Thank you for sharing your hard earned knowledge with us. Makes such endeavors less intimidating. These common practices of a forgotten time. Really gives a glimpse into the reality of our ancestors daily lives. It brings forth a well of emotions watching your interactions with your son. I never had these interactions with my father as a young man. He may not know it now, but, he will so cherish these moments as an adult.

Your Dad sounds like he was amazing to grow up with. To simply say "#*!@ me" and just dislodge the bikes and go on, is like a friend with you on a trip, rather than a Peer. He just took it as part of the adventure, and something no one could have foreseen till it happened. What an amazing man. You're lucky, Will. He's a rare breed for sure. Thanks for sharing that.

I'm so glad that your making videos again. Especially now, I've been stuck in a factory for work past few weeks. It's a sobering reminder of what we are. By the way I'll bet that doesn't surprise your wife, using her potato masher for venison brains lol! Oh and I looked up the slow worm. That was a good story. Glad the master has returned!

Thank you for sharing your videos Will; we appreciate them a lot. They are fascinating and always leave me with a greater appreciation of this time past. My daughter enjoys watching with me too, especially your video on processing the deer foot for resources and making a bronze age axe. She's only 6 but it still captures her interest so you've scored there! Thanks also for sharing your personal stories as part too, it's uplifting and positive for folks at this time of difficulty. Appreciated.

I used an old blender to make a fine paste of the brains. Got more out of them that way. Kids need that outside time. I raised my son alone from 5 months old doing the historical reenactments and living in remote places. He turned out great and now has his own family. He never met his mom.

Hey Will, I've liked your videos for long time. I am very into nature and you helped me get more interested in flint etc (in fact, I now always have a piece of English flint on my windowsill in my bedroom because I just think it is stunning). Anyway, I am just curious what your opinion is on modern animal agriculture and on meat consumption. Do you hunt yourself? or do you buy the deer skin? When I was early 20s, I learned about factory farming and it made me feel sick and I have been a vegan ever since. I would also be interested in hearing what the subscribers think about all of this. Feel free to leave a comment, I am not on here to judge or argue, only learn and share. Max

So I heard you say your introducing protein into the hide to break down the collagen or something to that effect having that knowledge my question is could you use boiled red kidney beans as a tanning solution drain them mush them up and use it for tanning cause if so that would be great I've never heard of anyone doing that or trying it.

you can _almost_ forget that it's a brain. i think rubbing mashed up brains into a hide would be an experience sticking with me forever, and not necessarily in the good way.
