Having listened to this song in German for years, it's hard to listen to it in English actually. It's rare I prefare a german version :D

I like this version to much, but my favorite is the german with tho original wien cast! It's morover a so intense song...it's great in every language! I love this song! Thank you verry much for post it! It was wonderful!

He's singer, songwriter, producer and everything inbetween, he's worked with the likes of Bonnie Tyler and Justin Timberlake. His name is Kyle Gordon Or Kyle "Scarpia" Gordon to be on professional terms.

I just watched the original German version of Dance of the Vampire yesterday (January 8, 2021). I believe the Broadway version should have used the original German version instead for English speaking audiences.

Rumor has it that this song was originally written for a submission for the Batman Forever soundtrack. The lyrics, "In the shadows of the city, a hero's waiting for the call..." definitely sounds more fitting for Batman than for The Fearless Vampire Killers. The composer, Jim Steinman, almost made a Batman musical. actually, I'm not believing, that I'm saying this: the best carpe noctem ever is the hungarian!!! has more POWER in it, more SPIRIT or I don't know, but that's the case. still like the english version too, but... :)

Check out that song performed by Meat Loaf, he recorded it with the same title on his album "The Monster Is Loose". I prefer his version to this one!

@DeemBrittyGirl The German version is amazing theater, but like German beer, too dark/heavy for American taste. Even Hal Prince has said some shows that work in Europe or NY won't "play in Peoria" or sell CDs/DVDs where the real money is made. If they'd just set to music the movie's tongue-in-cheek treatment rather than do an all out English-style farce, it would have succeeded. I blame the producers for allowing this to be lost in translation and Crawford's manager for letting him do it.

@BlackenedSoul93 something like "Day of anger, master, set me free, master" kyrie is another word for lord (god) and domine the usual word for master in latin. hope that helped... ;-)

+ravenstar100 He works under the name "Scarpia" last I heard. Steinman sometimes uses him for demos. He sang on the demo for "A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste"; best version I've ever heard.

But they never made a cd of the french musical :( (even if I asked for that a lot of time in the theater Mogador). I dreamed to go one day in Moscow to see the russian Musical. Now it's too late... I love all the languages and the russian language too (I learned russian almost 1 year. But the russian grammatik is very difficult). I can speak the german language fluently and was a lot of times in Germany. But I still never have seen the german musical (Tanz der Vampire) over there. lol!

Ahhh....the english version sucks! Steve Barton is and will always be the best Krolock there ever was! No comparison with the german recording!

I agree Steve Barton was the best Krolock ever, but this song isn´t sung by Krolock but by other vampires of the ensemble incl. Magda turned vampire. The German recording with Maté Kamaras as main male vocal is fantastic!
