Very bad idea to solder directly onto Lithium batteries! The heat can melt/damage the insulating separator foil inside the cell, as well as boiling the electrolyte and causing venting from over-pressure. It's OK to solder (quickly) onto welded tabs already on the battery. However, the casing of the battery is a huge heatsink so you need to dwell a long time to get enough heat for solder to melt. This causes the damage to the cell. Much better to spot weld on bare (new) cells because the duration is far shorter, so less heat gets inside the battery cell.

You made a mistake in executing the welder machine. (I made the same mistake.) The red and black wire are very thin and reduce your current from the transformer . That's why the weld is weak. Double those wires and you'll get a strong weld . Yesterday I made a video demonstrating this. (this mistake.) I put a 6 mm wire in the transformer, and at the output I have over 600 A . But since I put 30 cm of 3 mm wire, the current dropped to 350 A. I will upload the demo clip next week .

there will be some loss in the high temp silicone wire, but its not much, the cable thats in the transformer is doubled up and thicker so it should be fine. if they used the red and black cable inside the transformer then you would be correct

quick question, the cable that you used in the secondary winding, I noticed toy used 2 core of that size cable, can you tell me what sort of current you were expecting to get out of that transformer and what voltage, and since you used that size cable why did you reduce it in the size that went to the welding tip

Please tell me, can I use a relay switch instead of the PCB? I need use 120Vac for primary. Can that work? What is the secondary volts and amp output? Seem like 3 coils on secondary create too much dangerous volts. Most diy builders use 2 coils. Opinion?
@johncoops6897
@johncoops6897 4 ай бұрын
Relay will fail very fast, due to the huge inrush current of the transformer. You need to use 120V mains supply if you use a 120V primary. The 3 turns gives about 3 Volts output, safe enough to touch onto your tongue. Using 2 turns reduces the voltage to about 2V so you need more current and time to make the same weld penetration. It doesn't really matter how many turns, having fewer turns just means you can fit larger secondary cable inside there, however bigger cable costs more and is more difficult to insert into the secondary. Whether 2V or 3V it will still need adjustment for welding duration, so it really doesn't matter either way.
