Doesn't really matter--it's a good skill for a horse to be able to be well-behaved and quiet for. Maybe she's just using it as a training opportunity. Or maybe she prefers the way it looks. ;)

Farouk handled the experience very well, much better than I would have expected considering his flightiness. In fact, Apollo was the one who it appears was bothered much more, between his close watching, progressing to pacing back-and-forth by the grate, and then his talking. Maybe Apollo thought he was going to be the next 'volunteer?' Actually, probably either boy would tolerate anything for a treat!

I've seen some Arabs faces shaved down to the skin from nose half way up the muzzle, then greased for the flashy show ring look. And having them prance around to show off their beautiful confirmation is something that a new owner has to overcome in order to train them for backing. It's a shame really, but that is how it has been done with this breed for centuries. I never had the need to shave my Arabs faces as it is so hot and humid here their coats stayed fine and thin. I think it is a really good lesson in trust however in addition to cutting down on sweating around the bridle strap areas. The look in Farouk's eye when you got close was filled with love and trust (00:25-00:33) as if to say, "I don't like it mum, but I know you won't hurt me". Anything we do with our animals strengthens the bond we have with them. The more interactive and hands are we are, the more they love and trust us. Over the years, I've come to realize this is true even for animals I once considered to be bottom of the food chain creatures. I've learned that with love and attention, even the lowly mouse can show a personality, and a desire to have fun and play with us. Every creature, in it's own way, has something to teach us about life.

He certainly did well and you, Tara, did such a good job, praising him, giving him lots of breaks and of course, lots of carrots. That goes a long way to keep him calm. I appreciate your decision to not worry about his ears. Why cause more stress unnecessarily? He will be even better next time you have to clip him. Apollo is a hoot, and obviously was more than willing to get a shave, if it meant getting some attention and more carrots. He has such an interesting personality.

I must admit I’ve always been a bit nervous of clipping faces, so tend just to do a half head, nice neat line where the cheek pieces go and then it avoids having to go near the eyes and doesn’t matter about the ears either 😊I also found that if I stood on a stool so I was more level with the head one of the horses who was a bit nervous seemed to prefer it, perhaps it’s because they didn’t see the arm reaching up, funny though as he really didn’t like being clipped, but didn’t seem to mind his face. I found by at first handling his ears a lot, using the clippers when off to stroke them, eventually I could trim his ears, so I’m sure you’ll get there with Farouk 😊 He was a very good boy and so important that it was a positive experience for him, as you said, slow and steady, although a few times I was nervous that with one head shake his forelock could have disappeared 😂

He did so well! When we had my Friesian clipped last fall, she was a complete basket case. I haven’t tried to do her face yet, but I’m going to have to. We ended up doing a trace clip because that’s all she would tolerate. Perhaps next time will be better. 🤷♀️

Hi I have just watched a clip with a man that trained an Arab horse in the UK to pull a cart and very smart they looked it was a youngster terrified of everything atfirst but in the end turned out to be rock solid. Would you ever think of carting farouk or is it not for you... Some people like it some not... 🐎🤔

It's quite obvious to me that you are Farouk's person. He's nice enough to other people, but you have his heart. I'm afraid that that is the way it is with most Arabian horses. And I know you love both of your horses (I about said boys, but you have more than 2 in your household) lol. If you want to trim the hair coming out of Farouk's ears, just fold them back and use scissors to get that. It's quick and pretty painless and most people can trim quickly with them.
@Tara1014 жыл бұрын
yes scissors would do the job to tidy them 👍😊 I think I will do that thanks

Wow! I dont understand why you shaved his face. I am just not knowledgeable about shaving. He's so handsome. And why hasnt Apollo ground down his front teeth already? lol.. Hugs
@karinahubeny41904 жыл бұрын
Coral Cannon so for showing Arabians they prefer them to be cleanly clipped up in the face to really show off the dishy feature and big eyes. Most likely she was just getting him used to being clipped because normally the ears are clipped and around the eyes are shaved for showing! Hope this helps
@bearythoughts18494 жыл бұрын
He's a very clever handsome young man , it just shows how horses that are jumpy I will say than spooky by nature do better with calm gentle aura and patient like yourself than bouncy body energy and none patient attitude , I think they get known for being highly spooky and strung because of the way man has taken them out of a very plain environment then handled them and back them in a slightly aggressive manner , no wonder when they wave white tared up plastic bags or white ribbon on a whip in their faces or wrap them in the jaw with rope or chain to get them to move I would definitely be more spooked if I was a horse . Well I have that nature of being anxious if someone throws a wobbly near me , quite jumpy. Funnily enough when I had a chance of four ridding lessons over ten years ago now I didn't feel anxious at all it fact I found it calming always found horses I meet do that just a shame I couldn't fit one in my house and garden, so just as well I don't have enough money to buy and keep them although I do know of three stables within four mile radius so if I ever win big on the lottery which isn't likely as to each lottery you need to pick minimum of two lines so on a restrictive budget it's not practical. I will just enjoy watching your Apollo and Farouk and a few other horse forums on utube to get my fix. I do support a horse charity which started out as a rest home for retired horses and equines that around six years ago because of the increase of cruelty cases of ceased horses by the RSPCA they rebranded to bransby horses rescue and welfare , they have two locations in the UK the first one is Bransby near saxilby in Lincolnshire and the second is leominster close to the Welsh border, Which is far to far for me to travel compared to bransby and I like the village and the layout of Bransby . I also lived in Lincolnshire for eleven years near the border to where I live now. Only four miles away bransby is a lot more but I have a lady who takes me so depending on her schedule and the weather I was hoping to go sometime in the last couple of weeks of April onwards when everything is fresh in bud.😄

I don’t like it. I think it is going too far to shave his face. He is a horse for heavens sake. Made to live outside. This shaving is getting out of hand. I am sorry, I just think shaving his face is too much. Your horse your choice but in my opinion, I do not feel it is in the best interest of the animal. This is the first time I have ever felt this way about anything you have done with your horses but I find this quite upsetting. He doesn’t have a say in this. Should we shave our children’s heads so they don’t get sweaty? I am sad.
