Basic Goodness and Awe: A Conversation between Tara Brach and Dacher Keltner [2023-12-06]
Dacher Keltner, Ph.D. is a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, a scientist and the co-director of the Greater Good Science Center. He has authored a number of books, including bestselling "Born to be Good" and most recently "Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How it Can Transform Your Life".
Our conversation covers the biological, evolutionary and cultural bases of human goodness and the centrality of awe in the human experience. We explore the blocks to experiencing our full potential, and ways we can cultivate our innate capacity for finding wonder, love, creativity and beauty in our daily lives.

I have this quote on my shelf: "In all things of Nature there is something of the Marvellous." Aristotle. Thank you for your conversation and giving me vocabulary to express what my spirit knows from my own experiences in Nature. And backing up my personal knowledge and experience with science. It expands my sense of being "part of". I have the book Awe and can't wait to read it. Love to you both.

Truly inspiring talk! Substantive spirituality I can practice so simply as hearing gulls communicate, trees waving, waves pounding. Thank you !

When we have expectations that other being will "express" their emotions and feelings just like us we miss the reaction. This is also true with other human beings. Not everyone shows how they feel the same way. An animals "soul" or spirit just might be doing cartwheels internally, in ways that don't manifest physically in the brain, and we can't pick it up. Part of me loves the idea that animals are a little less neurotic emotionally and can appreciate and process awe without the need of validation. 😔🤔🤭🦧🐨🐧
