The filmed production Model was constructed in Vancouver, BC in 1995 for the Paul McGann Doctor Who reboot film. This will be the first time the model has been shown to the public in almost thirty years. Enjoy. #doctorwho

It would have been awesome if there was a series of Paul McGann as the Doctor: The Lost Years!

Beautiful model - love it! No Doctor Who TARDIS has ever been an accurate copy of a London Metropolitan Police Box, and that's fine and good - I love all the quirks of the different iterations; and the 1996 version was surprisingly accurate and us fans loved it at the time [plenty of evidence of this still exists on web-sites & forums now].

In the interest of clarity, it’s true that the idea for police boxes came from America where the first ones were made and used. However, this ‘Doctor Who’ type of police box is based on the design by Gilbert Mackenzie Trench, a Scotsman who worked as a surveyor for the Metropolitan Police. It wasn’t based on the American design. This is an extraordinarily detailed model. A thing of beauty and a piece of TV history. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Nice to see a prop that didn't get nicked or kicked around in warehouse, but carefully stored and now with a bit of TLC restored to former glory.

I love this model, wish I had one myself haha! This is just incredible, it still exists and untouched since it was last used. When you mention some restoring, please do a video logged process of this, I'm very much interested in seeing this beautiful model restored and the electronics updated using the latest stuff. (That would also be a bit of a learning lesson for others and myself around that process too). The TV Movie (to me) is an absolutely joy and a favorite (I'm also Canadian, so there a bit of pride for it being filmed in my Home Country!), despite the Opening Credits being in SD rather than HD ... it's still crazy how realistic it looks, even with the model! One of the Best title sequences ever made for the show, just very sad the original idea for a series didn't go through and of course this amazing sequence only being featured on the Film. What would be nice is having a short mini series of Paul McGann for a few episodes and possibly a much more remastered version of the Credits is used for the mini series. But anyways, the model is just fabulous, hope we get to see more of the prop and the restoration process!

Absolutely lovely video Phil. It is obvious how much love and affection you have for this very special piece. It is also reassuring to know that it is in the care of someone who really understands its significance to the community and also has a deep personal bond with it. Thank you for sharing this with us 👍

Stunning model Phil, it's a very close tie between this TARDIS design and the original Brachacki, for my all time favourite. Purchased a custom 1/12 model of this a couple of years back, but would love one in that scale.

Thanks for sharing this video, it's a beautiful Tardis model. Also much bigger than I thought it would be and you can't beat good old fashioned practical effects. If you're referring to Neil Cole's museum it'll be well looked after. Was also nice seeing you catch up with Sylvestor McCoy at the London comic con. Would love to see you at a con talking about your time making the Doctor who TV movie.

Thanks for this wonderful video. The police box constructed for the TV movie is one of my favourites, and this is a great miniature. I like the subtly weathered paintwork and the depth to the door panels and sign boxes. It has a lot of character and solidity to it, that some of the newer versions have lacked.

A beautiful prop of a timeless classic. Great to see the inside and how the Tardis comes apart, very interesting indeed. Thank you for keeping it safe all these years and I for one would love her to take a trip to Britain, but fully understand your reluctance to let her leave your custody. Now didn't you say you had a bigger one? nudge-nudge!

What I finding fitting is that the time-vortex-tunnel effect that you had in the TV movie, has essentially become a standard for Doctor Who opening sequences. :D

Thank u for sharing this with the doctor fans I really like the movie even though I don’t remember my fox affiliate marketing the movie back then and I was an avid fox viewer back then cause I loved the fox kids lineup and some of it’s prime time shows but if this was just for the opening credits then how was the in flight tardis done in the actual movie when the box was seen in flight also the tardis wasn’t always a police box cause during Colin baker’s era he briefly fix the Chameleon circuit one of the items it became was a pipe organ that Colin briefly played while walking past it leaving the scene but fans hated it being fix and wrote letters asking for the box back so the circuit malfunctioned again as the box and it never been fix since

That was wonderful. Very very nice of you to share. It IS the finest time machine in the Universe. As for putting this on the road for some installation. We-e-ell... I do love spending other people's money, but I say, have a very accurate replica made. Very. Like using castings of the surface to capture the "wild" plaster texture on each face, etc. This is a piece of movie history (much as yourself!) but, even bigger, Whovian History (ahem, much as yourself)! Shipping it off to the BBC and God alone knows who else, might not be the best way to involve the world. Notions of ownership and provenance may rise up at inopportune times, if I may try to sound like a lawyer for a moment... It's too bad you don't have a museum of your own, which would be the safest place to invite the world into. Maybe -- maybe -- the SF Museum up north... I dunno. I say keep the original for future Who scholars to mumble over and get someone (may I recommend Matt Irvine, who you surely must know--? he would certainly know of someone if he's no longer doing things like this) to make that replica. Did I say this was wonderful? It's not every day you get to peer into a fer-real screen used miniature from a piece of world culture.

Hi Phil, thanks for sharing this bit of Who history with us, and I'm looking forward to seeing its restoration. Nice to chat to you, albeit briefly, at London Comic Con (you signed my Seaquest model kit). Would have loved to pick your brains at length about all sorts of Who and Seaquest stuff but I got the vibe that you were pushed for time so I backed off. Which is totally fine, I have no right to intrude on your schedule. Another time maybe!

A treasure trove of content! Excellent video Phil! It's a shame about the inexact color match, but I believe i saw some stray strokes on the plastic under-layer of the roof if you'd want to get one for future. As for the question of the plans provided, they do appear to be a model of the prop designed by Tom Yardley Jones, which at one point was used by both Bakers, Davison & Mccoy. The roofing is a similar match with a lower base, but you are correct in there being small changes made by the prop designer on-set.
