YES!! it's really amazing how this "small" things can bring a lot of material to us. I remember that when i listened from Sérgio Dias (Mutantes guitar player) that everything that he knows about harmony came from just one song (whitch i cannot remember the name) playeb by another guitar player named Lanny Gordin

For those confused, by tritone substitution, he meant the substitution of the secondary dominants.

Sure, but it is obvious, he said it. One more thing : tritone substitution is tritone substitution, regardless of the function.

@anneonym7346
@anneonym7346 2 күн бұрын
@@Goofy8907 Don't worry, there are countless books and videos about definitions and functions. The "secondary dominant" is an important one to understand. It is simply a dominant chord that lead to a diatonic chord : V/I, V/II,V/III etc... .They are everywhere, the most important is to hear them and recognise them in tunes.

Adam Do you know of cool ways to harmonically approach a target chromatic mediant? This, to me, seems more challenging than finding cool approach chords to diatonic chords (as you did in this nice video). For example in All Of Me the first 5 bars are: | C6 | C6 | E7 | E7 | A7 Can you recommend approach chords to the E7 coming from the C6? I think this topic would make a great video.
@sus-kupp
@sus-kupp 20 күн бұрын
You could just use a secondary dominant like in the video, i.e. B7. That might sound a little odd, so a tritone sub might sound better, i.e. F7. You could also use a diminished 7 chord from a half step below, i.e. D#dim7. Also, the E7 itself *_is_* a secondary dominant, being a fifth above A, so you could add a ii chord to make it a full 2-5-1, i.e. Bm7(b5).
